@DrEmmaKatz This is a typo. It should of course say myth: the abuser is a loving partner.
Our org is run entirely by volunteers, who are all dealing with their own life situations. Some are survivors. Some have mental health issues. All are giving their time to us. We value each one ๐ฉท
There are myths that are perpetuating themselves in the UK. Myths that are causing harm to victims of abusive relationships.

A draft from our 'Narcissism' series last month. Coined after the Hoover vacuum, hoovering is a calculating scheme commonly used by narcissists to "suck" you up into their orbit and get you back into their life.ย
Have you any more examples to add?
Hoovering is a manipulation tactic commonly employed by people with narcissistic traits, used to draw someone back into a relationship. The term "hoovering" draws parallels with the Hoover vacuum cleaner, symbolizing the narcissist's effort to "suck" victims back into their lives
"Participants described abusers moving objects in order to cause falls, hiding their medication, withholding support such as guiding equipment, not taking them to appointments, and watching and/or filming them without their knowledge."

The aftermath of #psychologicalabuse in relationships can be devastating. Studies have found that nearly half of all men and women in #relationships have experienced psychological abuse. It can take the form of emotional manipulation, humiliation, controlling behavior, and more.
There is clearly a need for much more provisionย of specialist services so that LGBT+ victims/survivors of domestic abuse can feel confident thatย their needs will be understood and that they will be supported appropriately.
#WeStand to promote education on the issue and provide #supportforvictims. This is the only way to put an end to the devastating cycle of abuse.

It's National NonSpeaking/Nonverbal Awareness Day!
By providing tailored support & services for non-verbal neurodivergent survivors of toxic or abusive relationships, we can ensure that they have the best possible chance of escaping the cycle of abuse and rebuilding their lives.
We've seen a rise in interest of strategies for combating narcissistic traits from partners.ย
For this last week in September, we're going to plug a series of terms and techniques commonly promoted by survivors of being in a relationship with a #narcissist.ย
You are not alone.
"The statistics say disabled people are 3 times more likely to experience domestic abuse.
Emma, Saliha & Sara Cincurova, a journalist and former domestic abuse support worker, tell their stories and discuss what needs to be done to improve the situation."
