LONG POST ALERT 🚨🚨

I HOPE YOU'LL READ AND EVEN CONSIDER SHARING

On November 24, 2023, I heard the words that most truly kinda fear -

‘Yes, it’s cancer’

and, in that moment, everything I thought to be important changed .. it’s like Charlie Brown in school, there’s talking, and I wasn’t hearing a word - I must’ve been in shock

Thankfully, where I happen to live in Massachusetts, there is some of the very Best Healthcare in the US, and I’m blessed to have true heavy hitters at MGH - the Mass General Hospital, leading my care team .. I’m really very lucky (says the guy with the cancer diagnosis 😂)

In my case, I have a first degree family history of prostate cancer, so it’s something my Doc and I have been following since my mid/late 40s, with annual PSA tests

While this diagnosis shouldn’t have stunned me, you’ll have to trust me, nothing prepares you to hear those words

With my oncology Team, we decided to pursue a treatment pathway of 28 daily radiation sessions, and 24 months of hormone therapy, vs surgery

So, in April and May of 2024, I underwent 28 days of radiation treatments .. once completed, the radiation oncologist felt confident enough to say that he thought I was likely ‘cancer free’ - music to my ears .. as he’d delivered exactly the amount of radiation he wanted, to the exact spots where he was aiming .. in July 2025, I had a full set of (body) scans performed, and it affirmed his conclusion - I’d be lying to say that I wasn’t in tears that day

But, why this post

Well, the ‘hormone therapy’ will be completed this Saturday evening .. I’ve been taking pills every night for the past 2 years like a drill sergeant - never missing a dose, almost always 2hrs after eating which was what the Doc ordered .. that all ends with the last set of pills tomorrow night .. AND, I’ll finally add ‘cancer survivor’ to my X profile

This has been a LONG ROAD .. I’ll be fine .. the cure rates are very high .. I'm eternally grateful to my doctors, and my family and friends who’ve been there throughout

Lastly, my name is Greg, and I’m a 64yr old guy splitting my time between the Northshore of Boston and the Gulf Coast of Florida .. ‘Clam’ is just a fun name, that I hope you find amusing, too

I’m a golfing knucklehead, just having fun, and I’ll play in ANY Prostate Cancer Foundation (@PCFnews) benefit, anytime .. my Club in Florida hosts a tournament every March, and I’ve played the last few - finished 2nd last year .. PCF is a fantastic organization, and it is the leader in pushing scientific research forward

EVERY MAN SHOULD GET HIS PSA CHECKED ANNUALLY DURING THEIR PHYSICAL EXAM .. I’M LIVING PROOF THAT THIS IS SURVIVABLE .. AND IF YOU’RE GOING TO GET A CANCER DIAGNOSIS, THIS IS THE ONE TO GET .. THERE ARE OVER 300,000 NEW DIAGNOSES EVERY YEAR IN THE US .. 1 in 8 MEN WILL BE DIAGNOSED IN THEIR LIFETIME

My point is, golfers should golf .. investment bankers should raise capital

Playing at a golf tournament in England, Tiger Woods drives a Mercedes-Benz into a petrol station in a remote part of the English countryside.

The villagers stare at the Benz and are blown away seeing Tiger in person. The pump attendant, who knows absolutely nothing about golf, greets Tiger in a typical British way, completely unaware of who he is.

"Good morning, mate. Beauty of an automobile you have there," says the attendant.

Tiger nods a quick "hello" as he bends down and reaches for the petrol nozzle. As he does this, two tees fall out of his pocket and onto the ground.

"What are those?" asks the attendant.

"They're called tees," replies Tiger.

"Well, what on God's earth are they used for?" inquires the young naive Brit.

"They're for resting my balls on when I'm driving," says Tiger.

"Bloody hell," says the Englishman, "Mercedes sure thinks of everything."
