Language and rhetoric IS important.
Changing established use requires CRITICAL MASS.
It is difficult to persuade 'people', 'carers', and 'professionals' to stop using the label of 'service user' without a solid alternative that they associate with, and is used/understood by many
Services should support not define or direct someone’s life. That’s why the term “service user” is such a limiting & unhelpful term. It defines the person in terms of their relationship to a service; not their life & preferred future. Services shld supplement, not define a life.
‼️ The aesthetics of our streets and place matter‼️
Mental wellbeing is higher when neighbourhoods have good aesthetic qualities https://t.co/5ANH4peiA5
We 'felt' the aesthetics today on our walkabout of our 4 local areas in Essex for #participatory, #community, #actionresearch
Here’s how I characterize the journey from institutization to interdependence in diverse natural/normalized community life. From ‘done to’ & ‘done for’ to “done by & led by citizens” with supplementary help from professionals as needed. Some folks are getting stuck in the middle.
For communities, there are three kinds of “outside helper” in this world: 1) Useful; 2) Useless, and 3) Harmful.
The most dangerous helpers are the ones that think they can only do good. #whenhelpingharms#rekindlingdemocracy
"Let the power of art prevail in dancing, painting, singing. Together as one"
Thanks to funding from the British Council, we're launching an international partnership between our Brave Art students and art students in Malawi, led by Rhobert Magasi @weareunltd@BritishCouncil
How to start #coproductive, #participatory action research, with #communities?
- IDENTIFY neighbourhoods (statistics and conversations)
- GO THERE - talk to people, walkabout
- BE THERE - MORE, MORE, MORE

Really pleased Labour are calling for clarity on lockdown for shielding group. When I argued for it in my column this week, was noticeable some non-disabled readers thought it wasn’t a big deal to ask us to indefinitely put our lives on hold. Funny that. https://t.co/jxru5lg0Jm
Seventy new coronavirus cases have been linked to schools in France, a week after a third of the country's students returned to the classroom. https://t.co/GgitEFblES

Started reading to my mum over phone every night. A few pages a night, a book a week. We both fully self isolating for over a week.
Grandchildren and grandmother read too.
