@janine_ballard@jdpoc No logs were lost, as I recall! And there’s little sense of fun in the appendix. I think EMF’s tone is wearily, even cynically, puncturing the pretty picture of wedded bliss he’d created but could never emulate, even if he wanted to.
@jdpoc One of my favourites! Just don’t read the book’s ‘Appendix’; Forster revisited the novel 50 years later and gave a rather gloomy summary of how the couple’s life developed.
Merry Christmas folks! We are closed 24th, 25th and 26th but back open at 09.30am on the 27th - escape the sales, delve into some books and find sanctuary at Bromley House Library. Thank you for all your support this year.
@FondOfBeetles My late dad, a Catholic doctor, was clear that - once curing wasn’t possible - alleviating pain & suffering is the physician’s job, not prolonging life at any cost. If the painkiller dose required may be potentially fatal for an end of life patient, so be it. This seems humane.
Our autumn East Meets West events series ends this Saturday with @TisMeLeeSE talking to Clare about his life, work, writing and latest book Pleasantly Disturbed. Should be a top evening. Book at https://t.co/vPRoN55dqJ
@lees_helen Not at all, it made me laugh! Doing it in November is easier than January though. I actually don’t feel better at all, which is sad, but nor do I constantly fantasise about 🍷 which is the reassurance I needed.
Struggling for Christmas gift inspiration? You can buy a gift membership to Bromley House Library online - it is valid for 12months once activated. Easy as pie...
