we need to discuss quantum resistance on $Flux

vitalik recently flagged 2028 as the possible breaking point where quantum computers could crack elliptic curves. that gives us ~3 years or less for chains to upgrade to quantum resistance.

there are a lot of actual engineering bottlenecks though. standard post-quantum keys (dilithium) are ~2.5kb. if you try to shove those into a 30s block time, you kill propagation and brick the chain. so we have to look at other solutions.

one of the best way to scale this is a hard pivot to stateful zk-aggregation.

flux is unique because the nodes are enterprise servers with ram and storage fast enough to support running this.

1. Flux would have to kill stateless transactions. we can't broadcast a 2kb key every time. we would need to introduce a new opcode, OP_REGISTER_IDENTITY. users burn a fee to register their quantum key once into the chain state. future transactions don’t send the key, they send a 4 byte signer_id. we drop the transaction payload from kilobytes down to bytes.

2. A quantum resistant Flux would check identities in ram. we modify the daemon to load the identity registry state into memory on boot. when a block arrives, the node doesn't verify signatures linearly. it verifies a zk-stark proof that covers the whole batch. this requires massive random access memory.

3. Flux doesn't need a new tier to facilitate this. it just needs a governance proposal to update the node hardware specs. current stratus spec is 64gb ram. by 2028 at the latest, we need to vote to bump that to 128gb ram + high clock cpus. that upgrade instantly turns every stratus node into a quantum capable zk-prover.
