@villareport This squad is fighting for CL and has one foot in the QF of the Europa despite a massive blip. Still this season has exceeded my expectations and could be so much worse. If this constitutes a bad season then I’m all for it
@TotalVilla_ Depends what we are able to spend in the summer before and even after potential sales. We could use the free agent market if needs be. Wilson and Mingueza on a free is a good start off the top of my head then focus on other problem areas
@johntownley11 No coincidence that 10 of those players are still here. Four years ago almost. I think that says everything in terms of how poor recruitment has been
@TotalVilla_ At least we won’t be hindered by the restrictions that were in place last summer for us. (Having to have a positive net spend and the squad registration rule). It definitely had a big impact
@J_Tanswell So a €450m club record revenue and a 71% wage ratio and we still incur a loss. Is something fundamentally wrong with the way we are run or is it something as simple as better recruitment and a much reduced wage bill?
@TotalVilla_ 5 points a month will get us CL imo. Doesn’t sound a lot but stick to that Chelsea and Liverpool need 21/33 to get to 66. 7 wins in 11 isn’t easy, especially Chelsea’s fixtures
@AVFCOfficial What the team is producing this season, despite carrying 5/6 injuries at any given time, operating with a small squad and clear lack of depth, is still amazing to me. Can’t fault the lads despite the odd blip which is to be expected
@villareport No bad thing getting a point at Bournemouth despite being off it. Injures have come at a bad time and just got to grind results until key players are back and still be in and around the top 5
@Alex_Berwick My understanding is the “squad registration” sanction is the issue we’ve been hindered by most. Revenue could technically be double but we can still only spend what we accumulate transfer wise. Thankfully that’s not in place next season.
@Alex_Berwick Take away CL money and our wage bill still will have to be reduced on next year’s accounts. Newcastles can be a good indicator of what can still be achieved despite no European football
@Trentvilla1 Despite the sanctions, each transfer window has appeared disorganised and left the squad in a state of uncertainty. The club has made errors, and while the players signed prior to Emery have performed exceptionally well, that’s the next step we have to start getting spot on
@villareport If they pay his wages and we get the Elliot issue resolved then that frees up about £200k in wages. €25m in the green straight away in the summer. I can understand why
@danbardell €55m on Guessand and Malen. Elliot debacle! We’ve got bigger in house issues to sort first before we deserve the get players that Emery really wants
@AVFCTranstweet We are mediocre overspenders too. If we complied with SCR, not overspent on wages and actually be able to sell players instead of loans we’d be in a stronger position. We are hamstrung because we’ve messed up too
