What more can we do? The owners of The Electric & The Crown never respond. Birmingham Council & West Midlands Mayor refuse to exercise their powers to compulsory purchase to civic treasures.
The UK’s most historic grassroots arts street and Birmingham are let down so badly.
The Electric was the UK’s oldest working cinema until Glenbrook Property bought it in Feb 2024 and tried to demolish it. Now Glenbrook have dropped off the face of the earth.
Why won’t @BhamCityCouncil or @RichParkerLab do anything about these delinquent owners?
The Ozzy exhibition has ended. 800,000 visitors puts it 200k a yr above the UK’s busiest theatre, the Birmingham Hippodrome
But Birmingham Council still won’t CPO the home of @BlackSabbath The Crown from a decade of delinquent ownership by @ToyokoINN_JP. Make it make sense? 🤷♂️
@bhamcitycouncil@richparkerlab@brumleader What do you need to give @oldstationst et al lift off with their Crown/Electric plans & turn them into national landmarks? Give us Brummies something we can ALL be proud of 🙂
I visited Liverpool recently & everyone we met & spoke to were so proud of their Beatles tributes. Its amazing to see & be immersed in when in & around The city/Cavern. It wasn't my first visit there either.

Will we ever see @andyburnham@lisanandy@RichParkerLab or @BrumLeader stand up and say they pledge to fully restore and regenerate the UK's most historic grassroots arts street?
Growth in every postcode? Here's the most obvious first step in the whole country.
Plenty of people have wanted to rescue the birthplace of Heavy Metal & Black Sabbath or what was the UK’s oldest working cinema. But the current delinquent owners continue to let civic treasures rot. Nobody can save them without a CPO by @RichParkerLab or @BhamCityCouncil
Still can’t get a drink at the birthplace of Black Sabbath if yr a tourist in Brum. But can go to an Ozzy themed attraction at Universal Studios Florida or Hollywood.
How much money is Brum missing out on because The Crown is still closed and Birmingham Council won’t CPO it?
Two and a half yrs since the irreplaceable Joe Holyoak told the world exactly why Station Street, The Crown and The Electric must be saved from Glenbrook & Toyoko Inns.
Two and a half years of inaction by city leaders. Stop letting Brum down. CPO. CPO.

Seems a poignant and appropriate time to share Joe’s incredible article on Station Street and why it should be saved from Glenbrook Property and Toyoko Inns’ neglect. Required reading for @RichParkerLab@BrumLeader and any other civic leader in Brum:

Most Brummies won’t know Joe Holyoak’s name. But it’s no exaggeration to say that his love of our city saved many of our greatest architectural treasures and a left us a city infinitely better off than it would otherwise have been. A giant among Brummies.

How little self-respect does Birmingham have?
Compulsory Purchase is the only option left for the birthplace of @BlackSabbath.
@ToyokoINN_JP failed Brummies for 12 years!! @RichParkerLab & @BrumLeader. You simply can’t let this continue. It’s so embarrassing for Birmingham.
You can't go to the UK's oldest working cinema, or the birthplace of Black Sabbath & Heavy Metal though can you? I wonder how many more Heritage Weeks will see The Electric and The Crown rotting and locked off to the public?
(p.s. not a slight at Deborah who's lovely)
Hey @andyburnham as a ‘champion for live music’ will you support the CPO of The Crown, birthplace of Black Sabbath & Heavy Metal, home of Judas Priest, Robert Plant, The Beat, GBH, 60s UK folk revival and dozens more icons, after a decade of closure by @ToyokoINN_JP ??
Just tell us what needs to happen for you to step up & save two places so integral to what it means to be a Brummie? Please. @RichParkerLab@joanneroney@BrumLeader
Because the Vyse family, Glenbrook Property, Toyoko Inns & civic leaders have utterly failed Brummies up to now
Toyoko Inns have made over a £1bn profit in the 12 yrs they’ve let The Crown rot. In our opinion they’ve lied and lied and lied again. Birmingham deserves better.
The birthplace of Black Sabbath, home to Judas Priest, The Beat, Robert Plant & dozens more needs to be CPO’d. Now.
#GetGlenbrookGone#SaySayonaraToyokoInns
You ONLY save what was the UK’s oldest working cinema and the birthplace of Black Sabbath IF you get rid of Glenbrook and Toyoko’s shit show of ownership.
Birmingham. Take back control of the UK’s most historic arts street!
No street’s done more for British culture in the last 100yrs than Birmingham’s Station St. Yet Glenbrook Property have been allowed to run down The Electric so they can demolish it. And Toyoko Inns neglect The Crown for 12yrs
Does Birmingham have no self-pride? Where is the CPO?
While @ToyokoINN_JP are allowed to own The Crown and Glenbrook Property own The Electric, the only thing that will happen to the UK’s most historic grassroots arts street is neglect and decay. We’ve told you this over and over and over and over and…
