@practicalgolf Don’t you think that by 2030, when this kicks in for amateurs, driver technology will have moved on and the yards we lose will be negated? Also, most amateurs don’t hit that many fairways and so being 8-10 yards short of the trees will speed up play and result in less lost balls.
@McIlroyRory The rollback’s overdue. It’s not possible to keep lengthening courses. This is better than restricting drivers, making them obsolete. We survived the change from a 1.62 ball to a 1.68. We may lose 8-10 yds but by 2030, driver technology will have moved on, negating the lost yds.

@GolfChannel@chambleebrandel Valid points about optics but for clarity a ball that is embedded on its second bounce simply has to break the surface, not be plugged. In fact it does not even have to be resting on the ground, it can be nestled in the grass above the indentation. Not difficult to pull out/lift.
Absolutely delighted for @RossMcGowan !!! Finished 2nd to me in Dubai in 2009 then lost his game a little bit. Has persevered and got the rewards today. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Could not be happier for you Ross 👍🏼🏆

Hard to believe that are going to build on the course here at Basingstoke Golf Club (est 1907). Nice payout for the members though. Moving to Dummer GC next year.
