World Mental Health Day
Today, a light shines on the mind,
A gentle call to be more kind,
To wounds unseen, yet deeply felt,
Where silent struggles often dwelt.
For mental health, like breath, is key,
To every life, to you and me.
Yet many hide their quiet fight,
Ashamed to step into the light.
But know, dear soul, you’re not alone,
The weight you bear is widely known.
There is no shame in seeking care,
In finding strength through love to share.
For just like hearts and bones that break,
Our minds need healing, too, to wake.
To see that health is more than skin,
It lives within, it must begin.
So reach for help, let go of fear,
The world is ready, standing near.
On this day, and all to come,
Let’s lift the veil, let’s welcome some—
Some grace, some hope, some empathy,
For every heart in agony.
We rise together, we won’t fall,
Your mental health matters to all.
My 6 year old has started coming home and talking about how he can't have a day off because he needs to get the 100% attendance award. He said he'd go in if he was sick, just to get the award.
When will schools finally scrap attendance awards?
Students cannot be allowed to act however they want in classrooms.
There must be accountability for actions. We are not preparing students for the workforce if they are allowed to be disrespectful in classrooms.
This is also true at home. Parents must be parents.
Educators are not burning out because they need to do better at self-care.
Educators are burning out because of how they are being treated, what is being expected of them, low levels of respect, etc.
Maybe we wouldn't need as much self-care if we addressed the other issues.
When you send your kids to school there is zero chance they will come back to you "a different gender," but there is certainly a chance they won't come back at all. Yet some of y'all are worried about the former while shrugging about the latter.
Did you know we spend over $8 Billion a year on teacher turnover? Common sense should tell us that If we spent that money on teacher retention, we wouldn't have to spend it on teacher attrition.
Being a Sports Parent is Hard.
Raising an Athlete is Hard.
Parents: As you start this fall sports season, remember...
- What you do matters.
- What you say matters.
- How you parent matters.
As a parent, you impact the culture of the team!
Here are 5 Critical Lessons for Sports Parents:
1. It is Your Child's Experience, Not Yours! Remember that this athletic journey is your child's, not yours. Allow them to own their successes AND failures. Support them without dictating their path.
2. Have a TEAM First Focus - As much as you love your child, remember it is a TEAM sport. It's all about the team, not just your child. Teach them the value of teamwork and collective success. Show them how to sacrifice ME for WE. Celebrate their teammates' Successes!
3. Embrace the Struggle of Team Sports - Accept the struggle of team sports. Embrace the highs and lows. Help your child understand the value of perseverance and resilience. Struggles are part of growth and character development.
4. Navigate, Don't Plow - Be there for support, not to clear all obstacles. Allow them to navigate challenges and learn resilience. Being a snowplow parent denies them the chance to grow.
5. Find JOY in the Journey - Find happiness in the entire sports experience. Celebrate the small victories and lessons learned. The journey’s highs and lows are equally valuable. Teach your child to cherish every moment, win or lose.
