Looking for recommendations on free open-source models + thoughts on Google Antigravity
Hey everyone,
Iโm looking for good free open-source / open-weight AI models (preferably ones that are easy to run locally or have generous free tiers).
What are people currently using and recommending? (Especially for coding, general use, or local setups.)
Also, has anyone been using Google Antigravity? Would love to hear your thoughts on it โ pros, cons, how the free limits feel in practice, and whether itโs worth using alongside open-source models.
Thanks in advance!
**Hereโs a cleaner, more accurate version of the post, based on actual market action on 15 Oct 2026:**
**Asian markets sell off sharply as hot US inflation data fuels Fed rate-hike fears**
US September CPI came in hotter than expected (headline ~3.7% y/y, core 0.3% m/m vs 0.2% forecast), pushing up bets that the Federal Reserve may hike again as soon as its late-October meeting. This hit growth and tech stocks hardest and triggered a broad risk-off move across Asia.
**Key moves (approx. as of reports today):**
- ๐ฐ๐ท KOSPI: around **-7.5% to -8%** (Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix down ~9โ12%)
- ๐ฏ๐ต Nikkei 225: around **-4.5% to -5%**
- ๐จ๐ณ Shanghai Composite: roughly **-1.5% to -2%**
- Taiwan and other tech-linked markets also weaker (TSMC and related names under pressure)
Tech and semiconductor names, which dominate Korea, Japan, and Taiwan, led the declines. MSCI Asia-Pacific ex-Japan fell several percent.
**Why this happened**
Two main drivers reinforced each other:
1. **Hotter US inflation โ higher-for-longer / further rate-hike fears**
Stronger-than-expected CPI raised the odds of another Fed hike (markets priced in a meaningful chance of a move at the 28 October meeting). Higher rates increase discount rates and borrowing costs, which is especially painful for high-valuation growth and AI-related stocks that rely on cheap capital and long-duration cash flows.
2. **AI/tech valuation and competition concerns**
Markets have already been nervous about the sustainability of massive AI infrastructure spending, Chinese competition in memory chips (e.g., progress by CXMT), financing risks, and whether current valuations are justified. The inflation surprise accelerated selling in the chip-heavy indices that had rallied hard earlier in 2026.
In short: the inflation print rekindled Fed tightening fears on top of existing doubts about the AI trade, producing a sharp one-day (and multi-day) sell-off concentrated in Korea and Japan.

Today's crash in gold and silver is a reminder of one thing:
Commodities don't just move on fear. They move with money, liquidity, and confidence in currencies.
Governments can tighten policy, borrow money, and try to control inflation. But when debt keeps growing, monetary expansion can become part of the equation.
Over the long term, the purchasing power of money is the real story.
Call it the law of nature. ๐
