Robert Eggers says he set ‘WERWULF’ in 1300s England rather than modern day as he wanted a time period where werewolves being real was treated as fact.
“Superstitions in this period don’t exist, magic doesn’t exist, it is. All this is [real to them].”
I hit publish today.
After a long time of researching, writing, deleting, and rewriting, the first four chapters of my amateur LGBTQ historical romance are live on Medium. It is set in 11th-century Europe and it is the most ambitious thing I have tried to write.
And yes, it is a romance. Queer people existed in the 11th century. They just rarely got to leave records that look like modern love stories. This book is my attempt to imagine what those lives and longings might have felt like against the backdrop of emperors, popes, and caravan routes.
I’m posting it in parts. Today is Part 1 (four chapters). I’ll keep going as I finish more.
If you like historical fiction that takes the politics seriously and still wants the characters to have hearts and bodies, I’d be grateful if you gave the first chapters a look. Comments, criticism, and “this historical detail is wrong” notes are all welcome. This is amateur work and I know it.

Thank you for reading.
This part reminded me of watching X-men the animated series on tv as a kid with the giant mutant killing robots note to world: please don't make killer robots
@HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN Hunter Schafer in the horror one, Pennywise in the spy one… Kojima you cannot keep doing this to us. “The Next Cold War Begins” is this going to be more geopolitical espionage, or something weirder?
