I told my kids yesterday that I was excited to see them in my classroom instead of through a computer screen because I couldn’t wait to see their smiling faces. A student quickly reminded me they’d all be in masks. This year is really hard.
It’s my birthday today and I’m giving away five signed first edition copies of THREE KEYS, the sequel to FRONT DESK!!! Together, let’s #StandUpForWhatsRight! THREE KEYS comes out in 2 weeks!!! 🔑🔑🔑❤️📚🛎 Pls like + RT to enter—US only. 🙌😘🥰🎂 #FrontDesk#ThreeKeys#MiaTang
I’m devastated that I won’t get to see my students in person I’m two weeks, but I really respect the school board for making the hard decisions they had to tonight. I especially appreciated @SusanPauling and how she addressed the need for a shift to a positive mindset for all.
Just got my class lists and I’m so excited to connect with my kiddos this year! I’m happy to see several younger siblings of past students and even happier that my class sizes are small enough that we can comfortably stay 6 feet apart ❤️
Friendly reminder to not require students to turn their cameras or even mics on. The chat is your friend and if done right, I find it to be far more engaging and the sessions flow better. Tips below.
@TheyCallMeMsJay@MisEducatShon We’re not like Prince William, Fairfax, and Loudoun though. Internet access is a much broader sweeping issue in Fauquier. They’re also light years ahead of us in their 1-1 initiatives and technology integration. Geographic proximity is our only real commonality.
The Fauquier school board voted unanimously Monday night to reopen @FCPS1News schools on Aug. 24 using a “blended” instruction model, with students attending in-person two days per week. All students should be back four days per week after Oct. 16.

I hear a lot about socialization as a reason to return to school.
What, exactly, do people expect that to look like with COVID-19 precautions?
Reality? No cooperative play at recess. No group work. Sitting 6-feet apart from peers... at the same desk you'll sit at all day long.
The students who will lose out the most in online learning are those living in poverty, but teachers also shouldn't be forced to risk their lives going back into school buildings. What a terrible situation. It didn't have to be this way. Never forget it didn't have to be this way
Dear students and parents. We were told not to do new information in spring. We were limited to a small window of time. That’s not virtual learning. Please don’t get it twisted.
Thank you
@SusanPauling !!! Let's get behind our staff and, you're right, how we present this to our families and friends, MATTERS! Let's come together to make this happen!!!
Just for clarification- the aa/bb schedule is going to be significantly more difficult for teachers. The 4 day a week plan would be significantly easier. Teachers aren’t pushing for the aa/bb plan because we want to slack off. We want it because it is the safest option.
Just to be clear... as we head back to school and try to fill in the gaps of lost time, more testing IS NOT (has never been and will never be) the answer. Thanks for attending my TedTalk.
