Islam obligates a husband to provide for his wife and children according to his means. That responsibility is indeed his. However, Islam does not teach entitlement, selfishness, or a lack of cooperation within marriage.
If a wife chooses to contribute towards school fees, feeding, accommodation, or other family needs, that is an act of charity, kindness, and partnership for which she is rewarded by Allah. The Mothers of the Believers and many righteous Muslim women throughout history supported their families financially when needed.
Saying, "My money is my money, but his money is for all of us," may be legally correct in a narrow fiqh sense, but marriage is built on more than legal rights. It is built on mercy, sacrifice, love, and mutual support.
A successful Muslim home is not one where spouses constantly calculate what they can withhold from each other. It is one where each spouse asks: "How can I help lighten the burden of the other?"
Rights are important, but excellence (iḥsān) is even greater. The strongest marriages are sustained not merely by what is obligatory, but by what is willingly given for the sake of Allah.
From the blessed plains of ʿArafah, on this sacred day in which duʿā’ is among the most beloved acts to Allāh, I raise my hands and pray for all my beloved followers, friends, students, family members and well-wishers across all social media platforms. May Allāh accept from all of us. Āmīn.
O Allāh, Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate, forgive us our sins, overlook our shortcomings and purify our hearts. Accept our repentance and make us among Your righteous servants.
O Allāh, grant righteous spouses to those who are seeking marriage. Bless them with spouses who will be the coolness of their eyes, companions upon faith, love, mercy and righteousness. Remove loneliness, anxiety and emotional pain from their hearts and decree for them blessed homes filled with tranquility and sakīnah.
O Allāh, bless every marriage experiencing hardship. Restore love, understanding, patience and mercy between husbands and wives. Protect homes from division, hatred, betrayal and destruction. Place barakah in every Muslim home and protect all families from the plots of Shayṭān.
O Allāh, grant safety and security to us in our homes, our travels and our livelihoods. Protect us from accidents, calamities, evil people, oppression and sudden trials. Preserve our children, our parents, our spouses and our loved ones.
O Allāh, bring peace and stability to Nigeria. Remove fear, bloodshed, terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and injustice from our land. Protect the innocent and strengthen those working sincerely for peace, justice and security.
O Allāh, return every abducted person safely to their families. Especially the innocent children, women and victims of terrorism and banditry. Return them unharmed, comfort their families and replace their fear with peace and relief.
O Allāh, forgive those who have lost their lives to violence and oppression. Comfort every grieving family. Heal the hearts of widows, parents and orphans mourning their loved ones. Grant the departed mercy, forgiveness and the highest ranks in Jannah.
O Allāh, bring lasting peace to Kwara State, Oyo State, Ogun State, Osun State, Ondo State, Lagos State, Ekiti State, Borno State, Adamawa State, Katsina State and every part of Northern and Southern Nigeria. Unite our hearts upon goodness and protect our people from evil and chaos.
O Allāh, grant complete healing to the sick among us. Cure every illness, visible and hidden. Ease the pains of those in hospitals and homes. Grant strength and patience to caregivers and families.
O Allāh, protect our pregnant women and grant them safe delivery. Bless those seeking the fruit of the womb with righteous children who will be beneficial to humanity and a source of joy in this world and the next.
O Allāh, provide for the unemployed and open doors of lawful sustenance for job seekers. Remove debts, hardship and financial struggles from Your servants. Enrich us through Your lawful provisions and place barakah in our earnings.
O Allāh, protect our loved ones in the diaspora. Preserve their faith, dignity, health and families. Ease their affairs and return them safely whenever they travel.
O Allāh, bless the peace-loving Muslims and non-Muslims around us with goodness, guidance, peace and wellbeing. Make us ambassadors of mercy, justice and compassion wherever we are.
O Allāh, accept the duʿā’ of everyone saying Āmīn. Accept our Hajj, our worship, our sacrifices and our tears. Do not let this blessed day pass except that You forgive us, elevate us and write us among the people of Jannah.
Āmīn Yā Rabb al-ʿĀlamīn.
Imām, Dr. Idris A. Oni.
