Many pirates could have lived in regions where purchasing the game wasn't feasible or simply couldnt afford the game. You just may have not had those players period.

@ThelVanDamne No they didn't and its not relevant to our conversation. MS's responsibility to provide the market with an appealing game, not the fans. If they were doing their job old fans would be replaced by new ones, but the MS games have been overshadowed by other shooters and old Halo.

@thomasmahler This causes a similar phenomenon as having minimaps. You stare at the map/health/dmg instead of appreciating the animations, particle effects, environments. Why GoT innovated the wind compass. Maybe in an rpg with stats I can see why but not Quake.

@Matthasnocuts There's no context where these players would be worse off for broadening their horizons. By virtue of having played significantly less games than most others, they would indeed be less equipped to evaluate said games due to their frame of reference being 15 games from 1 series.

The moment the floodgates opened to the general audience was the moment the industry had to cater to the lowest common denominator. Now all games need to look real, paint everything yellow and keep you busy for 90hrs with benign content.
