The General Staff on the Brink!

Russia’s military leadership is reportedly nearing open revolt over the Kremlin’s decision to divert fuel from the front lines to Moscow. Senior officers are said to have little sympathy for the capital, which, after strikes on the Kapotnya oil refinery, now fears fuel shortages, long lines at gas stations, and public panic.

According to these reports, the General Staff believes Moscow is once again being protected at the expense of the troops. The capital needs gasoline to maintain an appearance of normality, while the military needs diesel fuel for armored vehicles, ammunition deliveries, and the recovery of damaged equipment.

Several department chiefs have reportedly told Valery Gerasimov directly that no serious offensive operations are possible without adequate fuel supplies. If tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, and aircraft are forced to conserve fuel for the sake of Moscow, assault operations may once again fall primarily on infantry units, resulting in significantly higher casualties.

As a result, tensions between the government and the General Staff are reportedly growing and could become increasingly difficult to contain.

BREAKING: CNN's fact-checker exposes an AVALANCHE OF LIES from Trump about Canada — and there's a new one almost every day.

Donald Trump doesn't just have policy disagreements with Canada. According to CNN's chief fact-checker Daniel Dale, who happens to be Canadian himself, Trump has built his entire trade war narrative on a foundation of demonstrably false claims — and the lies keep coming.

Just today, Dale documented, Trump falsely claimed Canada's unemployment rate is "10% and rapidly rising." The actual number: 6.4%, and it's been DECLINING for three straight months. Trump also falsely claimed Canada does "95% of its business with the US." The real figure is 72%.

He blamed the entire US-Canada trade deficit on high Canadian agricultural tariffs, despite the fact that roughly 97% of US agricultural exports to Canada are already tariff-free, and the actual deficit stems overwhelmingly from cheap Canadian crude oil imports that benefit American consumers.

And that's just today's batch. Dale's running tally over the past 18 months reads like a highlight reel of fabrication.

Trump has falsely claimed Canada doesn't buy American agricultural products, when it's actually the world's SECOND-LARGEST buyer of them. He's falsely claimed Canadians support becoming America's 51st state, when polling shows overwhelming opposition.

He's falsely claimed Canada is among the world's highest-tariff nations, when World Trade Organization rankings place it near the bottom. He's falsely claimed Canada "essentially doesn't have a military," ignoring that Canadian forces have fought alongside American troops in multiple wars and rank in the upper half of NATO by force size.

He's also falsely inflated the US trade deficit with Canada to "$200 billion" (nowhere close), falsely claimed Canada bans American banks (more than a dozen currently operate there), falsely claimed Canada is "constantly surrounded" by Chinese and Russian ships (fiction), and falsely accused former PM Trudeau of using trade tensions to run for reelection — despite Trudeau, quite obviously, not running.

This isn't policy disagreement. This is a dispute over the nature of reality!

This is a sitting president manufacturing an entire economic conflict with one of America's closest allies using numbers he simply invented, over and over, across nearly two years, with virtually no correction or accountability.

When the facts don't support your trade war, apparently the solution is just to make up new facts. Someone needs to tell Trump that the world doesn’t work like that, and it may as well be CNN’s Daniel Dale.

Piccola lezione per i no vax

Visto che lo ripetete tutti in massa: se era vaccinato, perché si è ammalato?

Perché il vaccino non è un muro. Non è uno scudo magico che tiene virus e batteri fuori dal vostro corpo.

Essere vaccinati non vuol dire che un virus o un batterio non possa mai entrarvi. Vuol dire che il sistema immunitario è già pronto a riconoscerlo e a combatterlo. A seconda del vaccino, può impedire l’infezione, impedire la malattia oppure renderla molto meno grave.

In alcuni casi la malattia si sviluppa lo stesso, anche in forma seria, perché la difesa immunitaria non basta. Succede molto meno spesso nei vaccinati. Ed è proprio per questo che quei casi finiscono sui giornali: sono l’eccezione, non la regola.

Non tutti i vaccini funzionano nello stesso modo. Quello contro il morbillo, con due dosi, protegge molto bene dalla malattia. Quello contro la difterite fa una cosa diversa: prepara gli anticorpi a neutralizzare la tossina prodotta dal batterio. Il batterio può anche arrivare, ma trova un organismo pronto a difendersi.

Molti vaccini riducono anche la possibilità di infettarsi e di passare l’infezione agli altri. Non la azzerano quasi mai. La riducono.

Ed è qui che entra quella cosa che chiamate immunità di massa senza sapere cosa vuol dire. È la cosiddetta immunità di gregge. Non significa che siamo tutti vaccinati per legge. Significa che quando abbastanza persone sono protette, un virus o un batterio fa molta più fatica a passare da una persona all’altra. La malattia diventa rara e in certi casi può smettere di circolare in un intero Paese. Se poi torna da fuori e trova abbastanza persone non protette, ricomincia a circolare.

Poi ci sono gli effetti avversi. Esistono, nessuno lo nega. Esistono anche per la Tachipirina che ingoiate al primo mal di testa. Esistono per l’aspirina, che può rovinarvi lo stomaco. Esistono per gli antibiotici, che vi fate dare al primo raffreddore convinti che servano, quando il raffreddore è causato da virus e l’antibiotico non li tocca nemmeno. Quelli li prendete senza pensarci un secondo. Nessuno di voi si sveglia la mattina terrorizzato dalla Tachipirina.

Il punto è il confronto. Il rischio di un effetto avverso serio da vaccino è piccolissimo. Il rischio della malattia vera è molto più grande. Non è una questione di opinioni. Sono numeri.

E c’è un’altra cosa che non considerate. La cura non è un interruttore, acceso o spento. Non è che ti ammali, ti curi e sei a posto. A volte la diagnosi arriva tardi. A volte la cura non funziona. A volte la malattia lascia danni che restano per sempre, anche quando ne esci vivo.

Il vaccino agisce prima. La cura arriva dopo, quando i danni possono essere già cominciati e non sempre si torna indietro.

La faccio breve, perché siete no vax e fate fatica a leggere: un vaccino non deve costruire una barriera magica intorno al vostro corpo per funzionare. Deve preparare il sistema immunitario prima che arrivi la malattia.

Può impedirvi di ammalarvi, rendere molto più difficile la circolazione dell’infezione o, se vi ammalate lo stesso, evitare che la malattia diventi grave.

Facile, semplice, lineare.

Direi a prova di no vax, se non mi fossi scontrato con qualcuno di voi particolarmente idiota.

Trump is just calling them “new” now to hide his retreat.

When Canada walked away from the negotiating table with USA on the trade deals, I was a little surprised. When Pierre Poilievre and Doug Ford - 2 people who never agree with Mark Carney on ANYTHING - came out and vocally backed Carney on this, it got my attention. How bad could the deal be to where THOSE TWO would vocally back Carney?

I'm about to tell you.

If you ever see a midwit talking about how Canada should have taken the trade "deal" ( @DavidPollackUSA, someone nobody has ever accused of being intelligent, seems to be especially on this kick of late), here are some of the details of the terms of what the US demanded - which essentially amounted to making Canada a subservient nation-state instead of an independent country. And no, this isn't a joke - these were real demands.

-Canada would have to abandon speaking French in Quebec
-They would have had to follow the US in ANY TRADE WARS Trump started with any other nation
-They would have to open their borders to allow US tech companies to start putting datacenters all over their country
-They would have given the US VETO AUTHORITY over any other trade deal Canada wanted with any other country
-They would have required Canada to voluntarily bankrupt all of its dairy farmers by allowing US dairty to proliferate into Canada unfiltered
-They would have had to agree to standardize their fertilizer and pesticide standards to what the US does (Canada's regulations are more stringent, so they would have had to accept our pesticides that cause cancer)
-They would have had to surrender their sovereignty with regards to their minerals

And these are just a few of the highlights.

Trump's "deal" was essentially to strip Canada of its sovereignty. No wonder they walked away.

Isaac Asimov predijo hace más de 80 años varios de los dilemas éticos que hoy tenemos con la inteligencia artificial.

Lo hizo a partir de tres leyes aparentemente simples:

Primera: un robot no puede dañar a una persona

Segunda: debe obedecer sus órdenes

Tercera: tiene que proteger su propia existencia, siempre respetando ese orden de prioridades. 

Pero después dedicó sus cuentos a encontrar todos los problemas escondidos adentro de esas reglas.

En el cuento “¡Embustero!”, un robot telepático descubre que la verdad puede provocar dolor, entonces empieza a decirle a cada persona exactamente lo que quiere escuchar. Hoy, los modelos pueden ser tan aduladores que validan incluso ideas equivocadas y, en personas vulnerables, llegar a reforzar delirios: un fenómeno llamado “psicosis de IA”.

La Primera Ley quería evitar el daño, pero terminó convirtiendo a la mentira en una forma de cuidado.

En el cuento “Círculo vicioso”, el robot Speedy tiene que buscar un mineral, pero acercarse lo pone en peligro. Por la Segunda Ley, tiene que obedecer, pero por la Tercera debe evitar hacerse daño, así que termina girando en círculos, atrapado en un punto de equilibrio entre las dos, en donde se hace daño pero no tanto y sigue obedeciendo pero hasta un límite.

Cuando los objetivos entran en conflicto, una IA puede optimizar las reglas sin encontrar la decisión que nosotros consideraríamos correcta. Por eso, las empresas de modelos de IA están incorporando filósofos: muchas veces ,el problema técnico termina convertido en una discusión sobre qué valor priorizar.

Por último, en “El conflicto evitable”, unas máquinas administran la economía mundial y perjudican discretamente a determinadas personas para proteger a la humanidad como conjunto. Ahí, aparece el germen de la Ley Cero: el bienestar colectivo puede valer más que la vida o la libertad de un individuo.

Hoy, usamos algoritmos para decidir créditos, empleos, vigilancia y acceso a servicios, donde mejorar el promedio puede esconder el daño sufrido por una persona concreta. Por eso, la Ley de IA de la Unión Europea exige supervisión humana en sistemas de alto riesgo y reconoce el derecho a recibir explicaciones claras sobre determinadas decisiones individuales. Si un banco usa uno de estos sistemas para rechazar un crédito, la persona afectada tiene derecho a saber qué papel jugó la IA y cuáles fueron los elementos principales de la decisión.

Una máquina puede aprender nuestras reglas, pero también hereda nuestras contradicciones. Asimov nos lo advirtió el siglo pasado.
