#Airpollution dangers&solutions told by our children. On @cleanairdayuk let’s listen to them & take action to make #cleanair for all to reduce @asthmalunguk Thanks to @BCPCouncil & @Sustrans & @DefraGovUK for the opportunity to create this. @HealthyDorset

This #CleanAirDay local #BCPCouncil schools have been distributing these ‘idling impact’ leaflets to their communities. Even if you have to drive, you can improve air quality by switching off when stopped. More clean air schools resources https://t.co/zwO4DIBjUK #Sustrans
@francesca_kms Couldn’t agree more. I cycle my three children (8;7 and 5 yrs) on the road. If we are going to transform the way we travel, we need to normalise cycling by everyone (of any age), so needs to be safer. Bike positioning etc taught in Bikeability should be part of driver training.
@MrsA4boys @DaddyGardener80 @vikki4mdnp @BCPCouncil@dorsetpolice Unfortunately the funding for the air quality role ended last year. However the ‘Clean air for schools’ toolkit I produced is available for all schools and public to use - https://t.co/zwO4DIBjUK I understand there are plans to access further funding do watch this space ..
@EllaRobertaFdn Doesn’t the young person need to thank the cyclist? The person who has chosen to travel by bike, meaning they are keeping the air cleaner for the child ? Every journey done by bike should be celebrated for not contributing to the air pollution which exacerbates asthma etc ?
Delighted to hear from another school who are making use of their banner.. each morning different children stand with a member of staff to remind people to keep their air clean :-)
Don’t forget there’s lots of other resources to use in the toolkit -

All of these kids are perfectly capable of riding a bike to school/clubs/outings IF they had the safe space to do so. Instead, most of them are probably ferried around short distances which does nothing for their independence, empowerment, health but adds to congestion/pollution
My children and I “held our breath” to see whether anyone from the 649 MPs might object. Glad to say no one did. Thank you to Gov & every single MP for supporting the 10 minute motion. Looking forward to March 24 & 2nd reading. We’re in a PHe health emergency & action must be now
A fantastic initiative that encourages more active travel and improves the air quality around @CJSDorset school. What’s happening to the Barrack Road cycle lane? @BCPCouncil@CIndependents
A banner which I created for @Sustrans and @BCPCouncil council for a No Idling campaign- if you see one I’d love to know what you think, and see any pictures of where they end up!
@ZigZagWanderer0 @LikeEngineer Really important point. Can you please direct me to a source of further data like this (or where I can find the calculations needed to allow me to come up with similar data) to use to make this point to those who argue cyclists pose a great danger to pedestrians. Thank you
@EllaRobertaFdn Devastating children’s health is suffering. But LTNs are just badly branded- They’re actually clean air routes, enabling more people on foot/bike/scooters/wheels to travel more safely. The cause of pollution is motorised transport, so surely making active travel safer is a bonus?
Why are these people not being protected from the obvious health hazard of hundreds of idling engines in a confined space. When will we start to take the dangers of dirty air seriously ? Write to your MPs! @airqualitynews@DefraUKAir@HealthyAirUK@EllaRobertaFdn
