AQI is a western construct. India must have its own index -Bharatiya Air Quality Weather Administrative System (BAQWAS).

Under BAQWAS, AQI of 250 will correspond to 1 on BAQWAS and this will be categorised as "Ati Uttam". Similarly AQI of 1000 will coresspond to 2, and this will be categorised as "Param Uttam".

Smoke and its generation has been a part of our ancient rituals since time immemorial. It is Western culture that has now made us look upon it as something undesirable.

BAQWAS will peak during Deepavali and winter and restore the pride we had lost due to this foreign imposed "AQI", which as we all know actually stands for Al Qaeda International.

हिंजवडी, माण-मारुंजी, बालेवाड�� आदी परिसरात बांधकामे सुरु आहेत. याखेरीज तेथे काही आरएमसी प्लँटना देखील परवानगी देण्यात आली आहे. त्यामुळे या भागातील वायुप्रदूषणात मोठी वाढ झाली असून त्याचे दुष्परिणाम दिसून येत आहेत. हवेमध्ये धुलीकणांचे प्रमाण वाढले आहे. परिणामी हवा अशुद्ध झाली आहे. या प्रदूषणाचा नागरीकांच्या आरोग्यावर विपरित परिणाम होत आहे. या भागातील नागरीकांनी यासंदर्भात महापालिका, पीएमआरडीए, एमआयडीसी आदी आस्थापनांकडे वारंवार तक्रारी करुन पाठपुरावा केला आहे. परंतु त्यांची दखल घेण्यात आलेली नाही. आम्ही वारंवार भूमिका मांडली आहे की, ‘विकासाला आमचा विरोध नाही, परंतु पर्यावरणाचा बळी देऊन तो होणार असेल तर तो विकास काय कामाचा ?’
माझी शासनाला विनं���ी आहे की, हिंजवडी, माण-मारुंजी, बालेवाडी हा परिसर औद्योगिकदृष्ट्या आंतरराष्ट्रीय नकाशावर आहे. यामुळे येथे पायाभूत सुविधा, नगररचना आणि पर्यावरणाच्या दृष्टीने योग्य आणि काटेकोर नियोजन आवश्यक आहे. परंतु या भागात अनियंत्रित पद्धतीने दिलेल्या बांधकाम परवानग्या, आरएमसी प्लँट आणि इतर बाबींमुळे परिसरातील हवेची गुणवत्ता ढासळली आहे. हे लक्षात घेऊन येथील वायूप्रदूषण नियंत्रणात आणण्यासाठी विशेष प्रयत्न करण्याची गरज आहे.
