Today marks a very special Milestone in our project.
Last Wednesday our community committed to ridding the ocean of 1000 football pitches of plastic. Today we officially donated $8730.97 to @TheOceanCleanup to help make it happen!
Now we prepare for Wave 2. Stay tuned!
Interceptors 008, 009, and 010 have collected ≈1357 kg of trash in Kingston, Jamaica. We are still trialing and optimizing this setup – special attention goes to the offloading process that will be put to the test during the rainy season when we expect a larger trash influx.
What happens to the plastic once extracted from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch?
1. We sort it on deck into two main categories: fibrous and rigid plastics.
2. We pack, weigh, tag, and secure it with tamperproof seals.
3. We return it to shore for recycling.
Another 6820kg out of the ocean marks Jenny’s 23rd extraction so far and the last one before heading back to port for a crew change and offload. System 002's total catch is 55,020kg so far; 1/1500th of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
@athanasiablue @Smiley_Sloth Even the ones that are minted for giveaways are randomly selected. It's the fairest way. Have you showed the wonderful people in the discord yet?
🌊It was great to see influencers & celebs support #TeamSeas
