On 10 October, Channel 4's @BritishBakeOff: An Extra Slice unfortunately downplayed coeliac disease by implying that a gluten free diet was a choice rather than a medical necessity. We are deeply concerned about the remarks made by the presenters, which undermine the seriousness of coeliac disease. It is crucial for media platforms to engage in informed discussions about this serious autoimmune condition.
We are actively following up with the producers of The Great British Bake Off: Extra Slice and encourage our community to do the same. You can read our open letter here, and we will share any responses we receive.
In the meantime, we ask you to reach out to @Channel4 and request an on-air apology for the harmful portrayal of coeliac disease, and for them to engage with Coeliac UK to ensure accurate information is shared in the future. We aim to promote a better understanding of coeliac disease in mainstream media.
Really interesting insight from @ClearlyAM from @TectreLtd and her experiences as an engineer. With 40% of women who gain engineering degrees leaving the profession - it reinforces the need for everyone to support their colleagues so that they remain energised and want to stay.

B chose “The Incredible Shrinking Girl Absolutely Loves Ancient Egypt” by @LouKuenzler #workdbookday2023 - we didn’t cut her hair (yet), just clever styling!
@MollyBoot1 Reading about the persecution of Anne Askew in the reign of Henry VIII, I didn't think we would still be witnessing people called heretics today for being compassionate
For the first time, not only is the Prime Minster younger than me, but there's a yogurt in my fridge that's spanned 3 Prime Ministers.
(Actually there's a bit of cheese that's spanned 4, but that's my fault.)
There was a bee investigating the flower tribute on the coffin.
Son: “That bee has no idea how special that is. To the bee, it’s just another flower.”
Daughter: “We might eat that honey and never know.”
Feels profound but I don’t know why.
