Community pharmacies across Lincolnshire are under growing pressure.

Our Health Scrutiny Committee has written to local MPs asking for urgent national action to protect services and medicine supply.

Pharmacy teams are spending more time sourcing unavailable medicines. This delays care and is putting extra pressure on staff. Some are also facing abuse from frustrated patients.

Cllr Richard Cleaver said these issues are now central to safe local care, not a minor concern. In rural areas like Lincolnshire, losing even a small number of pharmacies can have a big impact.

The key recommendations from the report on community pharmacy services in Lincolnshire are:
- Treat medicine security as a national priority
- Publish a UK-wide medicines supply strategy
- Strengthen UK manufacturing and critical supply chains
- Improve early warning, reporting and data sharing
- Enhance information systems and transparency
- Enable regulatory and professional flexibility
- Strengthen local system coordination and workforce capacity
- Reinforce ethical supply chain responsibilities
- Expand education, research and market oversight

We need national support to protect local services and help people access medicines close to home.

The council’s executive has approved a new Children in Care and Care Leavers Strategy, setting out how we will continue to support vulnerable children and young people over the next three years.

Developed with input from care-experienced young people, the strategy focuses on providing stability, improving outcomes, keeping children connected to their communities, and helping them thrive into adulthood.

It’s Carers Week and it’s time to recognise the extraordinary efforts of those unsung heroes!

This year’s theme is Building Carer Friendly Communities, places where unpaid carers are recognised, understood and valued. They make support part of the everyday life, ensuring carers get the opportunities and help they need.

Cllr Steve Clegg, executive member for adult care and health, said “Carers are the backbone of our communities, providing vital support to friends, family members and loved ones every day. All too often the challenges facing carers can be overlooked, but small changes can be of real benefit. This could be an employer offering carers flexible working, or a community group creating opportunities for them to connect with others. Together, we can create carer-friendly communities, making a lasting difference to the lives of carers and those they support.”

Cllr Natalie Oliver, executive member for children’s services added “It’s particularly important that we make sure our many young carers are fully supported. Our local schools and colleges already do a lot of work to identify young carers and put support in place to help them reach their potential. However, we can always do more, and we all have a role to play in ensuring these extraordinary young people get the chance to achieve their aspirations like others their age.”

On the shores of Normandy, before dawn broke on June 6, 1944, thousands of young men stepped from landing craft into a storm of gunfire, uncertainty, and fear. Many would never see home again. Yet they pressed forward, not for glory, not for recognition, but for something greater than themselves: the hope of a freer world.

D-Day was more than a military operation. It was an extraordinary act of courage carried out by ordinary people who answered history’s call. They crossed a sea into chaos so that future generations might live in peace. Their sacrifice was measured not only in lives lost, but in dreams left unfinished, families forever changed, and futures willingly surrendered for the sake of others.

Today, we pause to remember those who ran bravely toward danger. We honor the fallen, the wounded, and the survivors who carried the memories of that day for the rest of their lives.

The freedoms we enjoy were purchased at a profound cost. May we never forget the bravery shown on those beaches, the price paid for liberty, and the debt of gratitude owed to a generation that changed the course of history.
