The votes are in! After an extended election process, which required litigating absentee & affidavit ballots before a judge & a hand recount by the hardworking staff at the Ulster County Board of Elections, it is my great honor to serve as Ulster County’s next District Attorney!
The twin pillars of our democracy are freedom to speak our minds and one-person, one-vote. I wrote in the @WashingtonPost today about my experiences as a black man in America, and how it is imperative to utilize the instruments of democracy to make change. https://t.co/xh1GNCl4fY
1/5: 44 DAs and AGs filed a brief in the US Court of Appeals, 5th Circuit in support of legal representation @ initial bail hearings. They recognize that having counsel when liberty is at stake is a matter of fairness and justice. https://t.co/nFXTZgV9VJ

In the Board of Elections’ final count, I have won by 78 votes — a powerful reminder that every vote truly makes a difference.
We achieved this historic win for criminal justice reform through people power & faith in a better future. Thank you for your support & for your votes!
GOP candidate Michael Kavanagh has conceded in the Ulster County DA race, saying, "I am fully confident after the legally required hand recount of all ballots that all valid votes have been counted." Dem. Dave @CleggforDA will be the new DA. @WAMCNews

I want to wish everyone a festive season - to all a Merry Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa! There is so much to be thankful for. I am thankful to have had your support in this District Attorney's race. Once the recount is completed, I look forward to serving you. /1/
We are almost there. In the meantime, I am grateful to celebrate Christmas with my family. In this season when we wish for peace on earth and good will toward men and women, I would like to add justice for all. /2/ #JusticeForAll
My next State of the State proposal is to ban fentanyl analogs — dangerous synthetic opioids that mimic fentanyl.
Banning these substances will give our state more tools to fight the opioid crisis and keep NYers safe.

Yesterday marked the end of counting absentee & affidavit ballots in Ulster County. Thank you to the hardworking staff at the Board of Elections who tirelessly ensured this process was complete by the deadline set by the Court. Currently, Dave Clegg leads by a margin of 45 votes!
But the race is not over. There are 280 votes that have not yet been counted, and whether they are or not will be up to the Court. Based on the numbers, we all have reason to feel optimistic today and during the Thanksgiving Holiday!
