It felt fitting to draw a parallel to Elisabetta Sirani, an artist who experienced equal acclaim at such a young age, extremely rare for a woman painter in the 17th century. Here we have her 1660 work ‘Portrait of a Lady, likely as Pandora,’ which I picked because of the matching pose, but also because Alexia seemingly holds the world’s ‘evils’ in her hand, ready to unleash her footballing wizardry on her enemies at a moment’s notice. There’s a power in both images, and there is no one in Women’s Soccer as strong and in charge as Putellas with the ball in her midst. #TeamNike
