Generally, strict parents think their kids are better behaved, but in reality they don’t know their children, or what their children are doing; they only have a relationship with whatever mask their child has learned they must wear around the strictures their parents impose.

Regarding EVENTS I want to point out that saying "racist content is one thing but hurting volunteers is another" misses the fact that the two come from the same toxic systemic issues.
The simple truth is structural racism exists in fandom and is replicated by its institutions.
I've been saying this for years but just a reminder that interest and participation in queer fandom does not in any way automatically correspond to a genuinely progressive politics.
