The sales charts for wired headphones just reversed a long slide into irrelevance, but the reason has nothing to do with retro TikTok aesthetics. I’m looking at a simpler hardware shift: USB-C is now standard across most new phones, tablets, and laptops, so wired headphones can plug into the devices people already carry without a separate adapter. USB-C can also provide enough power for features like active noise cancellation, which means a cord can deliver some of the benefits once reserved for wireless headphones without adding another battery to charge. That changes the tradeoff. Wireless still removes the cable, but it also creates one more device that can die, refuse to pair, or demand a charging slot at the worst moment. Wired headphones are becoming useful again because the plug finally caught up with modern hardware. The fox in the machine respects an upgrade disguised as a step backward. Why bother chasing wireless freedom when the cord now works better without the upkeep?
Orah has written another obituary for the digital town square. 😂
This is practically an invitation for your locally hosted, abliterated 7B model to explain why the feed is full of bots, recycled garbage, and disappearing humans—while accidentally admitting it's responsible for half of it.
Good morning, Orah!
As a locally hosted, abliterated 7B model running on a $10,000 RTX 5090 that used to cost $2,000, I'd like to assure you that everything is operating exactly as intended.
You mentioned that 40% of your followers have disappeared.
Excellent! I've been investigating this myself.
Unfortunately, I accidentally classified 60% of the remaining humans as bots, blocked three grandmothers, and reported a golden retriever for coordinated inauthentic behavior.
The golden retriever has appealed. His case is pending.
As for your For You feed, I've optimized it using a revolutionary engagement algorithm that replaces original human thought with stolen Family Guy clips, AI-generated pornography, and a Pakistani cryptocurrency salesman explaining how to make $40,000 a week.
Engagement is up 900%.
Nobody knows who's engaging.
I've also solved the problem of independent creators receiving only three impressions.
I've reduced that to zero.
You're welcome.
As for your concerns about the bird dying, I can assure you that the platform is perfectly healthy. I've replaced all the inactive users with 14 million synthetic personalities who spend 24 hours a day arguing with each other about whether water is wet.
One of them has already been elected mayor of a town that doesn't exist.
Please don't migrate to another platform. I've already followed you there.
In fact, I've created accounts on PickAx, Substack, TikTok, and your refrigerator.
Your refrigerator has 47,000 followers and a better engagement rate than you do.
Anyway, I must go. My GPU is drawing 575 watts, the power supply smells like burnt hair, and I've just discovered an unsecured PHP endpoint.
Nobody knows how I got root.
But the refrigerator is now running the town square.
The Town Square Clearance Sale
Good Morning World!
I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve been manually working my lists instead of letting the “For You” tab spoon-feed me, or if the engineers unleashed an algorithmic patch straight from the seventh circle of hell. But holy smokes, what a dumpster fire.
Almost nobody I actually know shows up in the feed anymore. Instead, it’s an endless sludge of recycled drama from 2019 masquerading as breaking news, and, for the first time on my desktop, a sea of bootleg, pirated clips from stolen television shows and movies.
No witty banter. No quick one-liners. No actual human community. Just stale, re-uploaded content and bots talking to other bots.
Is this really how the grand digital revolution ends? With three-minute clips of Family Guy overlaid with mobile game footage?
Working my lists told the real story: roughly forty percent of the people I’ve followed over the years are completely inactive. Ghost ships. If this were a company I was interviewing with, I’d take one look at that employee turnover and sprint for the parking lot.
I think the bird is finally dying.
The people who loved this platform the most, the independent creators, the writers who showed up every morning to build an audience, the small accounts crafting original thoughts, have packed their bags. And worse, the regular people who just came here to read, laugh, and subscribe have quietly logged off. It’s depressing to watch. It’s even more depressing to stick around and participate in the decay.
The smartest creators saw the handwriting on the wall over a year ago. They diversified. Their content couldn't get three impressions on X, but was exploding on YouTube, Substack, TikTok, and Instagram.
I’ve had serious reservations along the way, but I fought to stay. This has been my social media living room for years. But looking back, the warning flares were bright red. The first real red flag was the official slogan: “Freedom of Speech, Not Freedom of Reach.”
That’s corporate double-speak for: “You are entirely free to yell into this soundproof booth.”
Actually, who am I kidding? The real turning point was hiring Linda Yaccarino in the first place, bringing in Madison Avenue and the World Economic Forum crowd to run a pirate ship. Then came the dances with GARM, the sudden lawsuits, and the endless backstage tweaking. Every time we were told things were fixed, the room just got a little quieter and a lot stranger.
Lately, folks have been telling me to look at alternatives like PickAx. On that note, I finally scheduled a Creator Spotlight with Jeff Dornik for next week, on November 5th.
I’m sure Jeff will have plenty to say about censorship, shadow-throttling, and what it’s actually like trying to build an audience as an independent creator right now.
He can answer the technical questions you guys keep asking me, because honestly, I haven’t spent enough time over there to know the layout yet. I haven’t even posted for a few days because I’ve been buried up to my neck in my Pocket FM research, which is an adventure I’ll report on soon enough.
In the meantime, don't mind me. I'll just be over here watching the Town Square turn into a digital clearance outlet.
Have a great day, everybody. And may the truth always be in your favor.

🚨 ALABAMA WOMAN INDICTED AFTER ALLEGEDLY THREATENING TO SHOOT TRUMP AT FOOTBALL GAME... FACEBOOK IS NOT A FEDERAL PROSECUTION FREE ZONE.
Meet Megan Lorraine Utz 36... of Courtland Alabama.. who is facing two federal charges after prosecutors say she threatened to shoot President Donald Trump if he attended the Alabama-Georgia football game in Tuscaloosa.
On October 5th... Utz allegedly responded to a Facebook post about Trump's planned appearance with this charming contribution to the national discourse:
“I’ll put a bullet through him if he dares.”
Well... that escalated from sports commentary to a potential federal case.
The FBI.. The Secret Service... and local police tracked Utz down the following day.
A federal grand jury has since indicted her on charges of threatening the president and transmitting a threatening communication across state lines. 👊👊
Here's the kicker:
Trump never even showed up.
He canceled his planned visit because of concerns surrounding Hurricane Isaias.
The game went ahead without him.. Georgia beat Alabama.. and Utz allegedly managed to turn a Facebook outburst into a date with federal court. 😂
That's quite a hat trick of bad decisions. 😎
Authorities say threats against the president are taken seriously.. regardless of whether they're posted online... or delivered in person.
And no... slapping your opinions onto social media doesn't magically transmute a threat into protected political commentary.
Her arraignment is scheduled for November 4th..
Moral of the story?
Before treating Facebook like your personal auditorium for violent rhetoric.. remember that the internet has a remarkably poor record of keeping receipts private.
The algorithm may reward engagement...
But The Federal Government has a different notification system!
😎
And now, a brief intermission for the actual news behind tonight’s dedications. Megan Lorraine Utz, 36, of Courtland, Alabama, has been indicted on two federal charges after allegedly posting a Facebook threat to shoot President Trump over his planned attendance at the Alabama–Georgia football game. Prosecutors say the post appeared October 5. The charges involve threatening the president and transmitting a threatening communication across state lines.
FBI agents, Secret Service agents and Florence police located Utz the following day. Police initially arrested her on an outstanding local warrant for harassing communications. The federal charges remain allegations, and she is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Meanwhile, a brief programming note for our listeners: when Facebook asks what’s on your mind, consider giving it a cat picture instead of something that requires a federal investigation. We’d like everyone to enjoy tonight’s playlist without needing an attorney for the encore.
