They have different hypotheses to explain the discrepancy between models and observations but agree there probably is not one reason (8)

The participants agreed that since 1979 (start of the satellite series) models show significantly more warming than the observations (7)

The controversy is mainly about this second definition. http://t.co/X2qtmSXWtz (6)

Christy used a second and broader definition, that models simulate a large warming trend high in the tropical mid troposphere (5)

They disagreed about definitions; Mears and Sherwood used a narrow definition of the hot spot, that surface warming is amplified aloft (4)

The participants agreed the tropical hot spot is not a unique fingerprint of AGW. Every (strong) forcing should lead to a trop. hot spot (3)

The participants were Carl Mears (RSS), John Christy (UAH) and Steven Sherwood. All three are very familiar with this "controversy" (2)

the question is: will bigger really be better? For weather probably yes, but for climate it might be no

@LabradorIce
@shubclimate who would you select on the "sceptical" site, claiming large solar contribution to recent warming?
Climate Dialogue

@LabradorIce
@shubclimate there is a whole story behind that, but in any case we have Vaquero, Svalgaard's co-author on his latest paper

@shubclimate who would you have invited for this dialogue on the skeptical site (remember we try to present a range of views)
