Two incidents from the past two days:

1. Bhavik Chunara married Payal Dantani on Dec 10 in Gandhinagar. Three days later, she killed him because she was unhappy with the marriage, as she was in a relationship with her maternal cousin.

2. Lusi married Santosh Yadav in 2018. Soon after, Santosh started an affair with her sister-in-law, Rupa. When Lusi found out and confronted him, he burned her alive.

Criminals exist on both sides of the gender divide. Both genders are capable of evil. A good law should not spare a criminal irrespective of gender and should not be selectively harsh on one gender. This is why we oppose Section 498A—not because we are against women. It’s not a gender war.
