Thinking about insurance is key to climate crisis scenario analysis. A crisis in insurance could flow into a crisp in real estate, banking or bond markets.

Everything that scientists predicted is coming true, and those who wilfully denied or hid it, and still do, have committed nothing less than crimes against humanity.

Today it is the UK's turn to experience serious flooding due to intense rainfall.
A reminder that UK rainfall intensity has increased markedly over the past 60+ years. All consistent with the physics of a warming atmosphere which is now more humid.
Just so we are clear: Israel causing thousands of pagers to explode across Lebanon — with zero means of even *pretending* to know who was holding the device at that specific moment, or where they were, or possible collateral damage — is, as you’d expect, a serious war crime.
I have signed a letter in disgust over the draconian sentences for climate protestors.
What is the bigger crime: destroying our planet for profit, or asking the world to wake up and act?

To all UK journalists: the climate crisis needs to feature more in this election campaign. You have an opportunity to put climate change on the front pages tomorrow.

#ShowYourStripes
When we compare events of the last 10-20 years with climate scientists’ projections of how to limit the climate crisis… policy has underperformed and iconology outperformed. Going forward we need policy to catch-up.
Next Friday (21st June) is #ShowYourStripes day!
Join a free-to-attend conversation about the Warming Stripes between myself & @t0mclark3. Learn about how they became a global climate symbol.

We often get these temperatures in the UK in early June.
2015 and 2019 are two recent examples.
We have short memories for what we expect from the weather.
My latest for @FTAlphaville. A thought: could bad health and healthcare prop-up GDP? America may offer an answer: https://t.co/UciDmh8nkc…
It is world-leading in health expenditure 1/3
A great graphic from FT showing the extent of the current temperature anomaly.

We are pleased to see the Government follow our advice and not carry forward the overachievement of the Third Carbon Budget. As ever, the aim should be to meet and outperform carbon budgets through actions to reduce emissions.
A very clear infographic. The message: the climate is spiralling out of control. The remaining budget for a 1.5 degree limit is now less than FOUR YEARS of current emissions . From here any 1.5 degree scenario needs (a) disruptive policies (b) overshoot and return.
Truly grim reading: How key climate indicators have changed since IPCC AR6 WGI in 2021
🌡️Decadal warming at 1.19C, up from 1.09C
🛰️CO2 at 419ppm, up from 410ppm
🏭Emissions at 54GtCO2e, up from 53
📉Remaining carbon budget 150Gt, down from 500
