AFRICA’S PRIORITIES FOR COP31 – As the African delegation heads to COP31, millions of frontline communities back home will be dealing with the impacts of the ongoing El Niño. That calls for serious reflection at the summit, says Veronica Nonhlanhla Jakarasi, a negotiator at the African Group of Negotiators.
Jakarasi says that in Antalya, the world must reflect on and understand the obligations and legally binding pillars of the multilateral process, especially on finance. She argues that Article 9 of the Paris Agreement clearly states developed countries' obligations to provide climate finance in public form to developing countries.
‘‘We must start to seriously think about safeguarding the nature, quality, and quantity of climate finance coming to Africa.’’

Building climate bridge resilience is like a passion to make sustainable development for a green future.
Climate change is not a slogan but a strong true challenge which #Africa, #America and #Caraiba must make cognitive effort to find really solutions from local to international
Power Shift Africa is in Pretoria, represented by our Legal & Advocacy Advisor, @mboya_meshack, for the launch of “One Voice, One Strategy: A Continental Blueprint for African Strategic Minerals, Joint Industrial Policies, and Diplomacy”, organised by the SOUTHERN AFRICA RESOURCE WATCH SARW (@The_SARWatch).
As global demand for critical minerals grows, Africa must ensure that its mineral wealth drives its own development rather than reproducing old patterns of extraction.
That means moving beyond exporting raw materials towards value addition, local industrialisation, decent jobs, technology transfer and greater African ownership across mineral value chains.
The Blueprint provides an important platform for building a common African strategy that can turn the continent’s mineral wealth into industrial and economic transformation.

Migration and modern day slavery are entrenched, systemic issue in the global economy.
Strong legislation and enforcement against anybody found culpable in modern day slavery can serve as a deterrent.
Youth unemployment and poverty alleviation programmes can reduce the rate at which the youth will plan to leave their country for greener pastures. It will also keep them away from crimes and other vices in the neo-slavery sphere.
