🚨 Why can obesity make weight loss harder? A new Science Translational Medicine study suggests obesity may leave a “molecular memory” in adipose-tissue macrophages. Obesity alters RNA splicing, disrupting SR-BI, efferocytosis, and lipolysis. Some changes persisted in mice even after switching to a low-fat diet. Correcting the abnormal splicing restored macrophage function and improved fat mobilization in mice. Human tissue showed related changes, but therapeutic findings remain experimental.
