HISTORIC EGG RETAIL!
*** We asked Mr. Peabody and Sherman to set the Wayback “WABAC” Machine to the late 1950’s-early 60’s to check Supermarket egg prices. During that span, eggs averaged 39¢/dozen. Fast forward 70 years and history does repeat itself!!
*** Your Clinton Save-A-Lot has decided to roll back the calendar 70 years. Effective today, Tuesday, May 5th, we have lowered eggs to 39¢/dozen and 58¢ for 18 pks. We made this move not because we had to….we simply wanted to offer an eggceptional value to our customers. Also, consider the fact that we are a little bit crazy at times!!
*** As of today, May 5th, the retail prices of eggs in Decatur at the BIG 3 chain stores are:
-Wal-Mart…$1.47
-Aldi….$1.66
-Kroger….$1.79
BIG does NOT always = LOWER. In fact, Walmart is 276% and Aldi is 325% higher!! We have many key items in our store that are LOWER than “Big” chain Supermarkets EVERYDAY!
*** Honestly folks, the cost of eggs has dropped like a rock recently. This is due to the quick recovery of the U.S. chicken flock. The huge increased supply and lower demand has caused wholesale prices to plummet! We have chosen to pass on the savings, unlike most other stores!
*** We will hold our retail for at least one week and longer if possible! There is a limit of 3 dozen per family at 39¢ or 2 - 18pks at 58¢ each. ABSOLUTELY no sales to restaurants or other businesses. Barring any more Avian bird flu outbreaks, the cost and retail could stay reasonable for the short term. Enjoy a 3-egg omelet for less than 10¢!!
*** We will continue to lower key items and keep them as low as possible. Check our yellow comparison signs throughout the store. We list the “Big” chain stores prices for you to see. As always, our forever pledge to you is simple….No Apps, No Ads, No Gimmicks, No Self-Checkouts, No Hoops to Jump through, No Scanning Phones, No Nonsense…Just Fair and Honest Pricing.
*** In case you didn’t get the Mr. Peabody and Sherman reference in the beginning - Google it. It was an entertaining and educational cartoon in the 50’s and 60’s, part of the Rocky and Bullwinkle show.
*** Incredible Edible Eggs at 39¢ - No yolk!!

WE ❤️ OUR NEW CAT!
*** As most Save-A-Lot fans know, we have had our back-up generator power for many years. We installed our first generator at our old Save-A-Lot 15 years ago in 2011. We are aware of only one other grocery store in Illinois with 100% back-up power. IF the “Big” chain stores or others have back-up power it only runs a few lights and checkouts. The clock begins ticking as to when the product is ruined and must be thrown away.
*** What does this mean to our city/county and customers? It ensures uninterrupted operation of our store during any weather event or other power supply issues. In 2024, there was a 16-hour power outage and a 20-hour outage in 2025 when we were basically the only store open.
*** Anyone in the grocery industry will tell you how scary approaching storms are for us. On average, we have approximately $200,000 worth of refrigerated meat, dairy, produce, and frozen food on hand. When the power goes out without a back-up, a decision has to be made when to move product to the walk-in coolers/freezers. With a prolonged 4+ hour outage, you then reach a point of no return and have to throw away almost everything! If product is re-frozen/cooled, the integrity of the product is compromised and will taste bad or possibly be a health risk!!
*** Our investment in a generator has reduced anxiety and fear as storms with strong winds and lightning approach like yesterday 4/27 as well as Winter storms with ice and snow. Our unit is powered by natural gas to ensure an unlimited supply of fuel.
*** In 2025, a decision was made to replace our existing generator in 2026 with a new one. It was getting old and showing its age. The last thing you want is your back-up to fail when needed. We were in the process of ordering a new unit, and it appeared our old “CAT” knew the end was near. Before the new unit arrived, our existing generator blew up on February 24th. Altorfer CAT Power Systems rushed us a new unit and it was operational on March 20th. During the 24 days with no back-up, we were on edge as Clinton experienced 2 rough storms. Thankfully, we never lost power!
*** Our investment in our generator is a LOUD and CLEAR statement to our Save-A-Lot fans…we are prepared to serve the Clinton community and Central Illinois at all times. We take our mission seriously and don’t want to let you down. Thank you for supporting our store for over 26 years.

***Natural Pure Water contains NO chlorine, fluoride, sodium, lead, nitrates, PFAs or microplastics. Our machines are FAST and you will be in and out QUICKLY!!!
***We will continue to monitor our system’s operation and add more storage if needed. We apologize for our dispenser running so slowly over the last few months. We are excited to welcome Midwest Best Water to the Save-A-Lot Family!!

YOU’RE YOLKING…EGGS 59¢/DOZEN???
***No, we’re very serious!! Effective March 2nd, we are able to lower eggs to 59¢ per dozen. We are EGGcited to be able to offer eggs at less than 5¢ an egg…to be exact, 4.92¢!! This is the 2nd lowest price in over 26 years, since Save-A-Lot opened it’s doors in 1999. About 20 years ago, we led the market at 47¢ a dozen for a week.
***In 1966, a dozen eggs averaged 59¢ a dozen in the U.S….60 years ago!! That would be about $6 in 2026 dollars. It SCRAMBLES the brain to think it is possible to be 59¢ in 2026!!
***As of March 2nd, the retail price of eggs in Decatur at the BIG 3 CHAIN STORES is $1.66 at Aldi, $1.67 at Wal-Mart, and $2.09 at Kroger. Our price is 64% LESS than the lowest price in Decatur. We love beating the “Big” chain stores – in fact it’s easy!
***We will maintain our 59¢ retail for as long as possible. There is a limit of 3 dozen per family, or 2 – 18 packs at 88¢ per package. No sales at this price to restaurants or other businesses. With Easter approaching, there will be market pressure upwards as demand will increase significantly. The egg market changes weekly! Of course eggs will go back up, but will hopefully stay at a reasonable level!!
***Most folks thought they would never see eggs below $1.00 after reaching $6-$8 and higher in many stores over the last 5 years. We will continue to lower retails as costs of some items are actually declining. As always, our pledge is simple…Fair and Honest Pricing – No Apps, No Ads, No Gimmicks, No Sales, No Scanning Phones, No Self-Checkouts – No Nonsense!!

We Care-A-“Lot”!!
***A clean and clear parking lot void of ice and snow sends a loud and clear message. We take the comfort and safety of our valued customers SERIOUSLY!
***Our lot is plowed frequently and salted often as needed. We applied over 2,500 lbs. of ice melt during this last blast of Winter. We even pre-salt before the snow flies to keep it from sticking and to help with easy removal.
***Your shopping experience begins when you enter our Lot. We will ALWAYS strive to do our best to keep it clean and safe!!
***At your Clinton Save-A-Lot, our lot….says A-LOT!! It shouts WE CARE and WELCOME to our store!!
***Be safe…be smart…be informed.

Happy Happy Birthday Dick Burk!!!!
*** November 30thDick celebrated year 93!! Jon and I treated him to breakfast today and had a great time!! Over 72 years as a skilled butcher and still chugging along.
*** 1953 was the year that he started in the meat business. He worked at the DeWitt Co-op Locker located in the parking lot of our current store!! He spent most of his career at Eisners/Jewel.
*** We are so thankful to have him around to pass on his knowledge and support our store. As he and all other Butchers will tell you, they are the backbone of ANY Supermarket. They are VERY HUMBLE fellas. It’s all about the Meat!! Just ask them!
*** Happy Birthday Dick from your Save-A-Lot Team and Customers. Best wishes for a healthy and happy 2026 and beyond!!

Great Food...Great Prices…and REALLY GREAT PEOPLE!!
MILK AND EGG PRICES CONTINUE TO DECLINE!
Food inflation with the exception of beef has been close to zero over recent months. YES, some items have increased. On a weekly basis, however, we average less than 10 changes up or down. Some weeks zero changes!!
Milk and eggs have continued their steady decline!! Our current dozen white egg retail is $1.88. This is our LOWEST price in about 2 years! The 3 NATIONAL CHAIN stores in Decatur are $1.96, $1.97, and $2.49.
White milk retails have hit a 5 YEAR LOW. Clinton Save-A-Lot is now at $2.14 a gallon. The Decatur Chain Stores are $2.16, $2.24, and $2.29. We love beating the National multi-billion-dollar chain stores!!
We will continue to offer the lowest possible retails on these important items! We pledge to always be fair and true to our mission – Every Day Low Prices – NO games, NO gimmicks, No apps, No ads, No hoops to jump through –
JUST FAIR AND HONEST PRICING!!!
