‘Righting the wrongs’. 6 months since being appointed as UK #windrush commissioner, @CliveFoster3 tells us how he’s helping ‘traumatised’ #Commonwealth citizens wrongly classed as illegal immigrants. He says some are trapped in countries like #jamaica https://t.co/i1YS1mQPGJ
1/3: As reported by @C4News, I urged the Home Office to act with compassion in Hannah Dankwa’s case. I welcome their decision to issue an emergency travel document so Hannah and her daughter can return to the UK. This must now be issued urgently.
2/3: It should never have taken public pressure for the Home Office to recognise Hannah as a vulnerable person in need of help. This highlights the urgent need for cultural change. As Wendy Williams’ review made clear: compassion must be central to decision-making.
@Channel4News I’m saddened that it was reported that I declined to comment on Hannah Amma Dankwa’s case. My office unfortunately saw C4 News’ request after the deadline for comment. I’m now in touch with C4 News & will be reaching out to Hannah & family. This case deserves care & attention.
