On a night when @reformparty_uk made headlines by taking control of Havering Council, I am delighted that myself and all five other Upminster and Cranham Residents' Association candidates were successfully elected. Thank you to everyone who voted for me/us
Cranham resident Bob Sarjantson (aged 89!) will shortly be undertaking a charity skydive for @MyelomaUK in memory of his late wife, Hazel, who died last year from the disease. Pls donate via https://t.co/5idILyE2pq for this worthy cause & share as widely as possible. Thx
According to @thetimes 9/10 top special (SEND) schools are owned by global investment firms. That is one of the reasons why local authorities have to pay so much & council finances in crises. @LBofHavering are to start building our own
@russtxy I went & had a look. The area you highlighted is behind the (albeit broken) wire mesh fence & is Network Rail land. They won't allow anyone on their land to litter pick. I will ask them to do it themselves but my experience is they will only remove large items, like mattresses
Interesting article ^ @faisalislam@BBCNews regarding divergence of consumer confidence by different age grps. Historically different ages have followed same patterns but ^ late 2024 older confidence is falling while younger is rising https://t.co/LA8WUfTsa9
For the info of anyone visiting Lakeside over the next few days ^ @EssexPoliceUK . I have been told that it was intended to set off fireworks (possibly inside).
Prov Local Gov Finance Settlement published yesterday. Not privy to seeing Havering's settlement yet but ^ blv it's as expected - better but not enough to remedy our finance probs. Balanced Settlement summary by Local Government Information Unit @LGiU via https://t.co/s4n1Sg6pnc
6/. My message to @Sam_Dumitriu is – if you truly want to change how GB builds homes, back balanced ideas that will be supported by majority. @UKLabour changes remove local democracy & will only add to the current backlash against political mainstream parties.
5/. Also, @Sam_Dumitriu promotes granny annexes in gardens & includes idyllic photo in article. They won’t solve the housing crises, in my part of country rarely look like that & often become beds in sheds at some point.

4/. @Sam_Dumitriu If you don’t like the idea of affordable housing, surely the logical solution is to cut out the middleman (developers), create a Gov owned national building co. & mass build council housing like they did in Dagenham?

3/. @Sam_Dumitriu criticises affordable housing. But how do you house people who cannot afford to buy? Without it you solve nothing & are just lining pockets of developers shareholders.

2/. Points I would take up with @Sam_Dumitriu A) He calls local planning committees ‘political’. They are voice of locals & taking that away is undemocratic. Who does the decision making go to? A: Whichever party is in Gov. Great for him if pro build but what if they aren’t?

1/. Interesting planning views from @Sam_Dumitriu & worth read even if, like me, you are a sceptic. I am naturally defensive of Green Belt development but would be more accepting if it solved anything - It won't unless our population stops expanding at unsustainable rate.

NEW: Labour just announced the biggest change in planning policy in 80 years.

1/. I get a lot of unsolicited lobbying. One of regulars is group coordinating picketing at industrial disputes across country. Latest promotes a Megapicket in Brum in early 26. What took my eye was their offer to provide hotel accommodation on night before.
