@WCoTaxAdvisers Thanks! The clock world did at least coin a name as a result of this. Tavern clocks, often found in 18thC inns because of their large dials, are also known as Act of Parliament clocks. Supposedly, after owners had disposed of their clocks to save on tax, they used these instead
@JesusArchives@JesusCollegeCam @WCSIM1 This is part of a turret clock’s winding mechanism and is called a sun and moon maintainer. Maintaining power allows a clock to keep power supplied to it, whilst the barrel with the driving weight is being wound back up. Is there still a clock in the chapel?
@DrStruthers@AndrewPAbrams @AnnaRolls1 Yes, this was the work of an individual, or more precisely 2 brothers, who certainly tried to push for it, producing a pamphlet in 1856 entitled ‘The Decimal System as a Whole, in Its Relation to Time, Measure, Weight, Capacity, and Money’. https://t.co/6jeo8f3PFx
