👇 Although written in Spanish, it is easy to translate this tweet from the protagonist of #EmiliaPerez (a 52-year old Spanish actor and trans activist who transitioned at age 46 after developing a TV career in Mexico), where the performer literally promises to "shut the mouth of all trash people".

🚨 Regardless of "gender", I simply do not recall any actor attacking and calling "trash" audiences who do not like them or their work; so, why is this person allowed to do so?

🚩 The film is receiving sharp criticism and massive rejection in Latin America because:

i) it is being marketed as a "Mexican" film (👇see the poster), although it is a French film (director is Jacques Audiard), shot in Paris and starred by a Spanish actor (@karsiagascon), a Dominican actor (@zoesaldana) and a US actor (@selenagomez, whose "Spanish" is barely understandable) because the casting director Carla Hool said that Mexico simply did not have actors who were talented enough for it (Excuse me?);

ii) it basically satirizes Mexico's drugwar and turns it into a "comedy" (see criticism by Mexican directors), even though things have grown so bad that last October the mayor of a Mexican municipality was beheaded by drug cartels after just six days in office (his head was left on top of his car for everyone to see) and at the end of November local airlines refused to land in Sinaloa (planes were deviated) because of the increasing cartel blood bath (👇see);

iii) satirizing and romanticizing the tragedy of cartels in Mexico is as tonedeaf and offensive as if Europe (or Latin America or Asia) made a comedy out of the issue of school shootings in the United States, and all of a sudden it started receiving awards instead of being called out.

📣 So, I hope major players in opinion get to see all these red flags about the film and its cast and crew, and i also hope @TheAcademy keeps all this in mind, before it starts handing awards to the film just to accommodate biases and lobbies.
