i am sorry
i promised you
a tale
and then went on
to spin a yarn
completely unrelated
to you or me or us
and all the fuss
in that empty yarn
was pedestrian
was convoluted
was entangled
like our fingers
locked upon
the corner table
of that obscure
coffee shop
a tale of two souls
searchingly stitched
wantonly blind
fervently lost
yet blissfully so
the coffee was
not just
getting cold
it was metastasising
into an insipid brew
but my eyes were
riveted by your sallow gaze
and that’s the story
i was attempting to tell
under a spell
