One of the best descriptions of Gintama I’ve seen on this app. Its such a great series that’s near and dear to my heart. It is not your standard anime, but once you allow yourself to sink into the world, you really appreciate everybody in the cast

gintama is an anime about a man who went through his shonen plot a decade before the present, and the show is that aftermath. the anime is him wanting to escape main character scenarios and just live. he wants to goof off and have fun, silly, lazy, inconsequential days with people he cares about after his early life was so hellish. 250+ episodes of this 350+ anime are the shenanigans of a daily life he’s longed for. every single seemingly meaningless episode fulfills the cast with even more love and loyalty for each other and cements unbreakable bonds. and when gintoki’s past creeps up on him again, when his tendency to want to free others from their burdens rears its head, when his skill as a samurai becomes a commodity against his will, the people he’s built this simple new life with fight beside him tooth and nail to protect that way of life, because he’s given them reasons to smile and life and be stupid tenfold. he’s protected the right to smile and laugh and be silly and free for each and everyone of them, and so they will risk their lives to give his back to him. it’s so peak it’s soooo peak and some people will just never get it
