@Ephsquare@wortz62@FrankieQuigs@DuBoseDefense Great article. I agree that the US just doesnโt develop players. Iโm sure Paul would know better than me. I still think that a huge part of the problem is that most of our best potential soccer players go play other sports. Whether they succeed in this sports is another thing
@mgdoyle1993@FrankieQuigs@DuBoseDefense lol I just got our misunderstanding. Iโm not saying it is just as easy to catch a ball with your hands as it is with your feet. Iโm saying that both require athleticism. They differ in degree of difficulty, but they donโt differ in kind.
@denzil00_@MartinWind31149@BowTiedCrow Sometimes? Tom Brady comes to mind. But obviously both are pretty equally important. LeBron is the obvious example for this, a freak athlete with elite basketball IQ. Are you arguing that Messi is un-athletic? If so I think we have different definitions of athleticism
@Ephsquare@wortz62@FrankieQuigs@DuBoseDefense So you think that American football and basketball are just checkers compared to the chess played in the Premiere League? Itโs all the same skills/talent. The only difference is what sport it is applied to.
@PaynterBar43153@BowTiedCrow I think he makes it very clear that, given our hundreds of Saquon Barkelyโs, at least SOME of them would be world caliber soccer players. Which would be better than the 0 world caliber soccer players currently on the USMNT roster.
@RopesTheDon@BowTiedCrow Because we donโt like soccer. Kids donโt grow up idolizing Messi, they like SGA, Jamarr Chase, Bryce Harper, etc. Kids dont like it as much, so we donโt support youth soccer, so we donโt get good pros, so kids have no one to look up to. Itโs a cycle, and it makes perfect sense.
@Nerazzurro57@FrankieQuigs@DuBoseDefense What do you mean? Heโs saying that having control of your feet isnโt athleticism and Iโm saying that being coordinated (in your feet or otherwise) IS athleticism. At least thatโs part of it. Thereโs also speed, strength, flexibility, etc.
@FrankieQuigs@DuBoseDefense If you donโt think that foot control and body control are correlated (or imo the exact same thing) youโre out of your mind. Itโs all athleticism. You said it yourself itโs a specialization. Catching a ball with your hands takes the same athleticism as โcatchingโ it with your feet
