@AndOne_wehner @NU_ChemE Great question, research and current usage suggests that the current market share of CNCs in packaging is expected to grow from 5% to 40% in 2030. There appears to be pressure and incentive to make products biodegradable and reduce impacts of waste using bioplastics.

@WillitsLab@NU_ChemE Thank you for that important consideration. Upon spray drying, the material forms a dispersible, hollow granule. It is our assumption that these agglomerates will prevent airborne safety hazards.
@AsteridBio @cheme_nu Hi Asterid Bio - great project! This may come into play when you are performing your economic analysis, but I am wondering how you are planning to run your plant, since this is a batch process. Will you need to shut down the plant to the reactor, and if so, how often?
@mvia1234@NU_ChemE Our independently grown and fast-growing MxG feedstock is essential. Additionally, the continuous process downstream of the reactor allows us to speed up filtering, drying, and reagent recycling which further increases our processing capabilities.
@WillitsLab@NU_ChemE CNCs are essentially refined from the crystalline regions of plant cell walls. This nanomaterial is nontoxic as it is just a complex network of glucose, smaller than what u eat. It can be applied as a filler for foods it is so safe. Pack-out system is used to package the product.

@WillitsLab@NU_ChemE For safety considerations, we are really focused on the acids and reagents being used as well as the pressure of the filtration system (monitor clogging). We need to prioritize that our alkaline waste is handled and processed properly. All other waste is sugar, safe to dispose.
