💷🗑️Durham County Council’s Coalition of Chaos Budget Unwrapped
⬆️Council Tax Up by 4.99% for the third year in a row!
📉Council reserves depleted by 22%, higher than any other Council in the North
📉Towns and Villages neglected once again with money going into Durham City
While we need to see the Milburngate site in Durham City finished and open for business, there are still questions the Coalition need to answer about why it has been sat empty for so long. Along with Cllr Carl Marshall, I've written to the leader of the council today.
Stars in Our Schools Day is important as it lets us celebrate all the staff in our educational system that help ensure our schools can function.
From those in administrative roles, to caretakers I want to say thank you for all you do in helping create a great educational setting.
Securing the future of the Hitachi train factory in Aycliffe is my top priority.
The Tory government left rail manufacturing in the lurch, threatening hundreds of jobs.
We need a long-term plan for rail.
I asked the Leader of the House of Commons about this vital issue.
RIP John Prescott
John was a giant of the Labour movement, someone who straddled generations and provided a bridge between the new blood driving Labour forward in the 90s with the socialist trade union values that provide our party’s foundations. He will be sorely missed.
John Prescott was one of the key architects of a Labour Government that transformed the lives of millions across the nation.
Watch @Keir_Starmer’s tribute to him in Parliament today.
Great to join @HitachiRailENG to launch of their battery operated @TPExpressTrains train
We’re known for making things in the North East and this exciting innovation, developed at their Newton Aycliffe factory, with batteries from Sunderland promises a greener future in rail 1/2
This will be the generation that takes the NHS from the worst crisis in its history to being the pride of our nation once more.
Yesterday’s Budget marks a huge step towards that – setting us on the path to make our public services fit for the future.
Politics is about choices.
The Tories chose austerity and chaos, leaving public services on their knees and working people picking up the bill.
This Labour Government is choosing differently.
