Abu Dhabi’s Destructive Role in Sudan.. An Ongoing Humanitarian Catastrophe.
Since the outbreak of the civil war in #Sudan in April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) led by #Mohamed_Hamdan_Dagalo (#Hemedti), the country has descended into the world’s largest humanitarian crisis.
After more than 1,000 days of fighting, #Sudan faces a multidimensional catastrophe: 13.6 million people displaced internally and across borders—making it the largest displacement crisis globally—and 33.7 million people, nearly two-thirds of the population, in urgent need of humanitarian assistance in 2026. Around 21 million suffer from acute hunger, with over 635,000 facing catastrophic famine conditions. The death toll exceeds tens of thousands, with reports indicating that thousands of civilians have been killed in #Darfur alone.
These tragedies are not the result of a purely internal conflict; they are the direct consequences of external interventions, foremost among them the role of #AbuDhabi as a major destructive actor. United Nations reports and credible human rights organizations confirm that #AbuDhabi provides decisive military and logistical support to the RSF, prolonging the war and intensifying mass violations.
This support is carried out primarily through a secret air bridge from #AbuDhabi to #Chad, where #Amdjarass airport is used as a hub for arms deliveries. UN investigations and journalistic reports have uncovered dozens of flights carrying Chinese weapons and other advanced systems, including drones, in clear violation of the arms embargo imposed on #Darfur since 2004.
#AbuDhabi has also established a field hospital in #Amdjarass, publicly described as humanitarian, but reportedly used to treat RSF fighters and evacuate the wounded, while aircraft return loaded with weapons.
The primary motive behind this intervention is economic: gold. The RSF controls most gold mines in #Sudan, with approximately 90% of production smuggled to #Dubai, now a global hub for illicit gold trade. In 2024, #AbuDhabi imported 29 tons of Sudanese gold directly, despite the war. This trade finances weapons and mercenaries, creating a deadly cycle: gold exchanged for arms to seize more mines.
The consequences are horrific. In #Darfur, the RSF has committed mass killings, particularly against the Masalit and other non-Arab communities, with documented accusations of genocide. In #ElFasher alone, more than 1,500 civilians were killed in 2025, alongside systematic rape, village destruction, and forced displacement.
In March 2025, #Sudan filed a case against #AbuDhabi at the International Court of Justice, accusing it of complicity in genocide. Although the Court declined provisional measures, this procedural decision does not negate the substance of the accusations or the extensive evidence documenting Abu Dhabi’s support for the RSF.
Despite repeated denials and claims of providing over $600 million in humanitarian aid, findings by #United_Nations expert panels and independent investigations consistently point to direct and ongoing support through weapons, financing, and logistics.
This intervention is not merely an ambitious foreign policy—it is an organized crime against humanity. The Sudanese people pay the price daily: children starving, women raped, cities erased, and a nation’s future sacrificed for narrow economic interests. Continued international silence, despite overwhelming evidence, makes the global community complicit. Saving #Sudan requires ending this destructive intervention now.
