You’re team periods are ineffective when you’re scout team is significantly overmatched and/or not fitting like the opponent.

Press Man Technique

Press man is one of my favorite techniques, but you have to be technically sound to execute it at a high level. From a cornerback’s perspective, when covering the outside wide receiver,

I always emphasize the following:
Alignment:

We split the wide receiver’s crouch, aligning slightly inside.

Area of Focus:
Our eyes are locked in on the wide receiver’s waist down.

I stress “feet first.” We play with our feet first, and then we bring our hands into play. I make my DBs take motor mirror steps to develop active feet. Once our feet match the wide receiver’s footwork, we then bring our hands into play.

In the drills below, you will see eye discipline, active feet, motor mirror technique, and finally, the use of hands.
