CONNECT • DEVELOP • GROW
"All really great things are happening in slow and inconspicuous ways" -Leo Tolstoy
There may be angst and worry when things feel stagnant. Have faith and trust in the work you are doing. It setts the stage for so much more. Be poised in the time being and allow authentic growth
"Saying yes to one thing is always saying no to something else. The cost of a bad yes isn't just the time it takes. It's whatever could have grown in that space instead" -James Clear
Be intentional of the things you say yes to and understand the power in saying no when necessary
"You have a right to perform your prescribed duty, but you are not entitled to the fruits of action" -The Bhagavad Gita
Understand how to disassociate your own self worth from the goal you are striving towards. Who you become along the way is more valuable than the destination
"Thinking is difficult, that’s why most people judge" -Carl Jung
Elite leaders diagnose what's holding their people back. They don't simply judge and punish. They take the privilege to walk beside their team and actively think of ways to help bring everyone along with them
"We have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak" -Epictetus
The ability to observe our surroundings, study the pieces that make our culture rather than assuming we have all the answers, provides us with valuable information to then build upon
"He who has a 'why' to live for can bear almost any 'how'" -Friedrich Nietzsche
Combining self-honesty, poised responses, and hard work with a defined purpose creates a powerful state to grow from. There are few things that cannot be accomplished in time with that combination
"If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom and yet deprecate agitation are men who want crops without plowing up the ground" -Frederick Douglass
There must be trials to endure in order to become more than you currently are, don't hide
"Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom" -Viktor Frankl
Fight for the ability to control your reactions and responses in a way that will allow you to build not crumble
"The first principle is that you must not fool yourself, and you are the easiest person to fool" -Richard Feynman
The lies that you tell yourself are far more detrimental than the others. Audit yourself, speak truth and eliminate the excuses you are using to keep comfortable
"The mind will take the shape what you frequently hold in thought, for the human spirit is colored by such impressions" -Marcus Aurelius
The consistent outlook you have on your life and your situation will become the reality you will live in. Shift your perspective to positivity
"What are your goals? That's one thing, but how do you get there? We're really going to be defined by how we handle adversity." -Matt Painter
Striving towards goals will always bring adversity. That adversity reveals the true character you have been building the entire time
"If you're only in it for the championship pursuit and none of that other stuff means anything to you anymore and it's just banners and rings, then you should get out." -Dan Hurley
What the journey provides along the way is what truly matters, what really sticks in the end
"You have a bunch of kids who try to go easy or don't want to play hard in practice and just flip it on for games, you aren't going to win with those kids" -Kelvin Sampson
Habit formation and Discipline is a necessity. Demand those of yourself and be a success no matter what.
"The talent level of this team is absurd, as is the closeness of the players, the maturity of the approach and the purity of the collective." -Jay Bilas
We overemphasize individuals and neglect the purity of the team. Groups get us far in this game, not any one singular player
“We don't have leadership. The upperclassmen who should be leaders and get us over the hump can't do it." -Brad Underwood
Age doesn’t always equate to leadership. That skill needs to be built and fostered over time. It helps even more if that time is spent in the same spot
I kept going back to all my pregame speeches and postgame speeches, don't run from a challenge, take adversity head on, fight to the bitter end." -Wayne Tinkle
A great example of true purpose, unwavering passion, and foundational poise. Attack what is in front of you, always!
"The person in training must seek to rise above, so as to stop seeking out pleasure and steering away from pain" -Musonius Rufus
The path to excellence is difficult, one that will force you to endure or to quit. Excellence leaves that choice to you. Learn to trust the struggle
