A True Voice for Agriculture?
I would urge all Texans to ignore the foolishness that our Commissioner of Agriculture, Sid Miller, spreads on social media. Miller often shares the totally biased and rarely factual articles of the Texas Scorecard. The Scorecard is simply tabloid trash which stirs up anger and resentment against anyone or any faction that refuses to bend a knee to the financiers of the far-right, Tim Dunn and Farris Wilks.
Recently, Miller used a Texas Scorecard article to misrepresent the Texas Farm Bureau (TFB), which represents the interests of over five hundred thousand rural Texans. Dunn and Wilks frequently campaign against pro rural and pro agriculture legislators supported by TFB. Each December, the TFB voting delegates convene to adopt policy positions for the next year. The TFB does not “reverse” or “shift” their positions throughout the year.
As always, the TFB is a tireless supporter of property rights. They favor legislation that protects the individual liberties of property owners in Texas. They also oppose the foreign ownership of Texas land. Miller is spreading false information regarding the TFB’s positions on these issues.
This doesn't surprise the many of us who have watched Miller use his career in politics to try and make himself a social media influencer, a ring kisser of Wilks and Dunn, and a yes man to popular national candidates. Miller spends a lot of his time opining about non-agricultural related policy; when an agricultural issue arises, he rarely positively adds to any meaningful discussion. As some commentators put it, “Sid is all about Sid.”
