Xan Smith helped lead Wittenberg to a 36-5 record, a 1995 NCAC title, and an NCAA playoff berth. A 2x First-Team All-NCAC selection, AFCA All-American, 2x captain, and Golden Helmet Award winner, Smith was inducted into the Hall of Honor in 2016.

Fred Mitchell rewrote the record books at Wittenberg from 1965-68, setting the NCAA College Division career kick-scoring record, 12 school records, and 5 OAC records. His legacy lives on through the Fred Mitchell Award honoring the nation’s top non-FBS kicker.

Mark Chubb anchored Wittenberg’s offensive line from 1991-94, earning 3x First-Team All-NCAC honors and 1994 AP Division III All-America recognition. A 2025 Hall of Honor inductee, he now serves as Head Football Coach at Memphis University School.

Rocky Alt (Crestline HS) quarterbacked Wittenberg to back-to-back OAC titles and a 19-0 record, finishing with 4,195 passing yards & 46 TDs. The 1970 Mike Gregory Award winner also set baseball records before a 35+ year college coaching career.

Juan Howard (Wooster HS) was a force at defensive tackle, helping lead Wittenberg to 3 NCAC championships and 4 straight NCAA playoff appearances. In 2001, he recorded 20 TFLs and earned the Hank Critchfield Award as NCAC Defensive Player of the Year.
