Heartbreaking. The loss of Councilman Mays is devastating. It’s hard to even put into words. He loved Flint. He loved his community and was willing to do anything to support his people. When I first began coming to Flint, Eric Mays would take me around often driving with him to meet different community leaders and pastors who he wanted me to meet so we could all discuss solutions. He was a tireless fighter and champion but also balanced that with incredible sly sense of humor and wry insight. My heart breaks in hearing of his passing. He and I had recently spoken on the phone and joked about our plan to do some community talks and issue based tik/toks together. His laugh was so unique and cutting. As hard and serious he would fight he also liked to poke fun, especially at those he knew didn’t have his fight. I think he often joked to lighten the stress of being on the front lines of the fight. When a true fighter passes the entire community hurts deeply because real fighters can never be replaced. There will never be another Eric Mays. He is singularly unique. From his voice to his wit to his ability to say anything to anyone if necessary. He cared so deeply for his community, that he didn’t care who he might have to offend. But fighting takes its toll. We love you and thank you Eric. We hurt, but we must keep fighting in your honor! ✊🏾🕊️#EricMays #Flint #RestInPower
