Dan Lanning said, "I've always felt your best teams are what I call player-led teams."
"The coaches aren't in the room, I think it speaks to the character of the players."
The best teams are player-led.
• They take ownership.
• They hold people accountable.

🚨 Offensive Innovation/Trends 🚨
PNR rate has levelled off.
3PA have hit a ceiling.
Pace hasn't increased in almost 6 years.
But ASSIST RATE has seen a drastic increase in the last 3 seasons. In the NBA, it hit the highest rate in history this season - 63.4%.
Why?
1. Coaches like Mike Brown, Erik Spoelstra and Mike Malone have led the 'delay action' revolution.
Passing from the post or from your bigs is, statistically, one of the most efficient actions in basketball because the rim protection is occupied.
Big men are accounting for a large number of this increase in assist % at the pro/D1 level. Playing through the elbow or the delay, using Princeton concepts has consistently been able to generate long closeout situations and basketball cuts. Much like it did with the Rick Adelman Kings of the early 2000s.
2. Paint touches off of 2 feet. The Celtics predicated their entire offensive system around paint touches. And this is UNIVERSAL; it's NOT limited to high level basketball. Paint touches have a high correlation with assist % and overall win %.
Rim frequency is down; floaters are up. This is a side effect of playing off of 2 feet in the paint. Skill players are also closing the efficiency gap in regards to floaters inside 10 feet and contested shots at the rim inside 3 feet.
To be clear, PNR is still king in basketball. There is ~ 70/100 possessions on average. But this a trend that HAS to be taken into account.
Run offense through your bigs, and get to the paint.
⬆️ ASSIST RATE.
