East Islip, NY / Adelphi Baseball ‘19 / Asst. Coach @ St. John the Baptist HS / Long Island Titans Baseball / Pitching Instructor @ 365 Athletics (Bellport, NY)
Another example of a paid sports commentator not understanding Baseball 101.
1 out, 1st & 3rd. In that situation, the 3B coach tells the runner at 3rd that he's scoring on a ball on the ground 100% of the time. Make the defense choose to stop the run from scoring or turn the DP.
If the defense goes home with it, 3B runner doesn't just run into a tag. He needs to get in a rundown, and STAY in the rundown long enough for the other 2 runners to move up, ending the play w/ 2nd and 3rd.
What went wrong here was the 3B runner did a horseshit job of staying in the rundown, and the 2B runner should have recognized that and stayed on 2B. The 3B coach made the right call. It was the runners who screwed this one up.
Learn the game, people!
Breaking habits during plyos allows you to focus on competing during games.
If you’re on the mound thinking about your mechanics, you’re competing against yourself as well as the batter.
@SanzeriBaseball Well said, Coach. My HS off-season program guys were warming up while I was wrapping up a lesson with a 9 year old; I asked the 9 year old when we throw the baseball. The entire group of HSers yelled, “When the front foot hits the ground!”
Couldn’t agree more with the cue
Get your front foot down, then throw.
This drill allows you to feel what I talk about so often.
Being patient & bringing the house down at front foot strike. Sets up your delivery for success.
Congratulations to Shane Meehan (Sayville 2026) on his commitment Stony Brook University! A Titan Lifer! Shane is a leader on and off the field. A really good defensive catcher, with a plus arm, and power potential with the bat. A great player and even better person. Very happy for the Meehan family! @shane_meehan6@axcessbaseball #TitanNation

Starting backstop for team LI at an athletic 6-0, 185. Pulls a base knock into left here off a high-hand set and leg lift for timing. Uses the whole field and gets it done consistently against high-level pitching.

Thomas Perri (‘29, NY) collected 8 Ks thru 5.2 inn of work. Filled up all parts of the zone with his FB; had run & sink to it (T78). Showed feel for spinning his slurvy breaking ball.
