âą Did not play on a major circuit in High School
âą Did not commit to a traditional one and done factory in college
âą Wasnât promised a starting role, playing time, or a set amount of shots by Kelvin Sampson
He ran to the hard and now is top 5
Eugene Edgerson posted this public message on Facebook about his son's Senior Day at Salpointe. Wouldn't expect anything different from Gene. This kind of character goes back to the days I called him over the phone about his recruitment by Arizona when he attended St. Augustine High School in New Orleans. You could tell then he was raised right. This comment by Gene should be shared to every single parent who has a young athlete as a son or daughter:
"Itâs senior night and Jazi didnât get to play.
I never once walked up to my sonâs high school basketball coach about playing time. Not once.
See, that wasnât my lane.
My job was to raise a young man.
Coachâs job was to run a team.
If my son wanted more minutes, I told him what was told to me:
âWork so hard they canât sit you.â
I wasnât about to teach him that when life feels unfair, you go over somebodyâs head. Nah. Life donât work like that. The world ainât handing out minutes â you earn them.
I sat in them bleachers quiet.
Clapped when he did well.
Drove him home when he didnât play.
And in that car, Iâd say â
âYou control effort. You control attitude. Everything else? Thatâs grown man business.â
Too many dads fighting battles their sons need to fight themselves.
Basketball ainât just about buckets.
Itâs about learning how to handle disappointment without folding.
I didnât need my son to be the star.
I needed him to be solid.
Because one day it wonât be about minutesâŠ
Itâll be about marriage, jobs, pressure, and real-life fourth quarters.
And I refuse to raise a young man who thinks somebody owes him playing time.

Leadership is a lonely position. You canât be concerned about being liked, what others think, or losing a player. As a head coach, caring and communicating come first. Being transparent fosters respect and trust with everyone. Good context and message from Jon Scheyer.
Credible sources have confirmed @XanderGrasty is one of the best guards in the 2027 class regardless of Sneaker/Circuit Affiliation
Iâve said it before and Iâll say it again, Iâll take my @UptownAAU guys over anyoneâŠanytimeâŠđ€·đŸââïž
Our guy JoJo Smuda was absolutely impossible for other teams to contain all spring and summer.
He is relentless in the paint, and will surprise you with a nice shot and a developing handle.
No brainer for College Coaches!
