Northeastern . A school who plays in a very tough division but potential to turn it around . Made it to the last round of the interview process . Ran a practice with some of their players which was really cool . They just went in a safer direction 🙏🏾

This summer, I received 3 “NO’s” during the Varsity Boys Basketball Head Coaching hiring cycle.

I stepped away from the Prep School landscape to get back to teaching & coaching young people who look like me. I prepared at a high level for every interview—researching each school’s culture, history & traditions while developing 5-year outlooks, feeder frameworks, preseason plans & SWOT analyses.

I say this humbly—not arrogantly—but this hiring cycle left me with mixed emotions.Are programs doing their research? Are basketball decisions being made by people who truly understand the game and the impact these decisions have on young people?

4. Be a school teacher / married / Have “experience”

At two local HS, the basketball programs are averaging a new head coach every 2.2 & 2.7 years. At some point the question has to be asked: “Is the problem really the coaches?” Maybe it’s time for some administrative self-reflection!!Successful programs are built by hiring “realistically”, not “politically”. #WhatWins💯
