Joplin Year 11 complete. Teaching year 15. Coaching year 18. What a year. The team on field memories of the last 11 years mean so much to me. Can’t wait to make more in the future.
People think coaching is:
🏈 Calling plays
🏈 Wearing team gear
🏈 Friday night lights
🏈 Winning trophies
Sometimes it is.
But coaching is also:
-Checking on a kid who is acting different
-Having difficult conversations
-Making decisions that disappoint people
-Holding standards when it’s unpopular
-Helping players through some of the hardest moments of their lives
-Doing laundry until Midnight on a Friday night
The football is only part of the job.

We have far too many adults who use youth & high school sports to boost their own sense of value & importance. Coaching kids is often a thankless job, but the moment a coach forgets that kids are still kids - all to chase wins, stats, or personal recognition - they’ve lost sight of what it’s really supposed to be about.
We have a problem.
Somewhere along the line, “Playing multiple sports is good!” turned into, “you have to play all of your sports simultaneously year round!”
We’ve lost the plot. Kids cannot play a baseball, basketball, and football season all at the same time.

“Bad leaders see smart people as threats. Good leaders see them as force multipliers. The strongest builders don’t protect their ego — they weaponize the experience around them.” #LIFERS
Every head coach knows this:
A great assistant changes everything.
They lift your culture.
They protect your standards.
And they determine how far your team can really go.
Standing on the sidelines on a Monday Night is one of my favorite parts of the fall!!!!
Watching and cheering on those young athletes as they play on Monday and then encouraging them as they transition to scout team on Tuesday is NOT an easy job.
